Binance Scholarship Philippines: CZ Reveals Plans to Sponsor Filipino Students

Changpeng Zhao (CZ), CEO of Binance, announced Binance Scholarship in the Philippines. The CEO said they will be engaging with universities to recruit interns and, after the students graduate, they can be welcomed to the company.

The CEO announced this at a press briefing in Taguig City on Wednesday, June 8. Binance is currently the largest cryptocurrency exchange in the world.  (Read more: Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao in the Philippines to Discuss Company Expansion)

CZ said the initiative is already happening in universities in Italy and France. This is the first time they offer it in Asia.

Binance also has two other ongoing educational programs; Binance Academy has guides and courses about crypto and blockchain. Binance Masterclass is a more structured learning with a mentor or guest speaker.

A the same press conference, CZ expressed Binance’s plan to procure licenses from the financial regulators in the Philippines. According to CZ, they aim to acquire the virtual assets service provider (VASP) license and the e-money issuer (EMI) license from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). Binance has also secured regulatory approval in France and other countries.

Still, the crypto exchange currently faces a probe from the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) over the 2017 initial coin offering of its BNB token– currently the world’s fifth-biggest cryptocurrency. The Commission is said to be examining whether the token’s offering constitutes a security sale, which would have needed to be registered with the agency.
