Aiming to simplify the integration of self-custodial Lightning payments into everyday applications and services, non-custodial Bitcoin payment platform Breez has announced a new implementation of its software development kit (SDK) built on Spark, a Bitcoin-native Layer 2 infrastructure.

Technically, the integration offers developers a Bitcoin-native experience without relying on bridges or external consensus mechanisms.

This approach is expected to enable various use cases such as streaming payments for content, monetizing social apps, in-game currencies, cross-border remittances, and artificial intelligence-based micro-settlements.

โ€œThis is what the future of Bitcoin looks likeโ€”fast, open, and embedded in the apps people use every day. By teaming up with Breez, we’re expanding the ecosystem and giving developers powerful, Bitcoin-native tools to build next-generation payment experiences. Together, we’re building the standard for global, peer-to-peer transactions.โ€

The initiative is considered developer-friendly because it includes bindings for major programming languages and frameworks. The SDK supports LNURL and Lightning addresses.

Moreover, another key feature of the integration is that real-time user interaction is facilitated via mobile notifications.

โ€œWe need developers to bring bitcoin into apps people use every day. That’s why we built the Breez SDK. We’re excited to build on Spark’s revolutionary architectureโ€”giving developers a powerful new bitcoin-native option and continuing to strengthen Lightning as the common language of bitcoin.โ€

As part of the collaboration, Breez will operate as a Spark Service Provider alongside Lightspark, facilitating payments and supporting the growth of Spark’s ecosystem. The new SDK implementation is scheduled for release later this year, with technical specifications to follow, the entities involved assured.

โ€œWe’re excited to see what developers build with Spark; it’s very exciting to see this come to the world.โ€
