BitPinas joins the local and wider crypto community in celebrating Bitcoin Pizza Day. Organized by Draper Startup House, the meetup on May 22, 2022 is expected to bring builders and enthusiasts in one room to discuss Bitcoin, NFT, and the future of crypto. The event is made possible by RarePizzas and PDAX.
BitPinas is organizing one of the panel discussions during the event, discussing Bitcoin, its significance, and the local industry’s future. Lineup is to be revealed on May 19, 2022.

What is Bitcoin Pizza Day 2022?
Believe it or not, there was a time when Bitcoin does not have value. Like zero or near zero. But that did not stop early advocates to showcase the then-nascent cryptocurrency as a means of payment.
Thus on May 22, 2010, programmer Laszlo Hanyecz bought two pizzas in exchange for 10,000 BTC. “I just want to report that I successfully traded 10,000 bitcoins for pizza,” he said on the BitcoinTalk forum.
In a 2019 interview, Hanyecz said he felt the transaction has made bitcoin real to some people. “It certainly did for me,” he said.
Of course, those bitcoins have appreciated in value, but the global crypto community recognized Hanyecz’ initiative as the first time some had used bitcoin to pay for a physical product. Every year on May 22, the community comes together to celebrate this historic event, [and probably to remind people who sold their bitcoins early on what they could have if they did not sell. Jk]
