The Sandbox Launches Educational Initiative in PH for Developing Crypto Games
The Sandbox, a decentralized virtual world platform, has launched an educational initiative for Filipino students who want to learn how to build games called “Sandbox Academy.”
What’s the significance: It is a good opportunity for students to acquire skills in developing crypto games, which they can use in the future of their careers.
About the Sandbox Academy
Sandbox Academy is designed to equip college students with practical skills and knowledge to create games and experiences on The Sandbox platform.
- What Does It Offer? Educational institutions that will be partners with Sandbox Academy will be able to offer a one-month intensive course through online and on-site sessions.
- Key Focus: Students are expected to learn the fundamentals of game development, including creating assets with the voxel editing tool VoxEdit and designing immersive experiences with the development tool Game Maker, both are tools within The Sandbox ecosystem.
- Game Jam: On the last week of each course, a game jam will be held for all participating students, with $SAND prizes awarded to the winners.
- In The Sandbox, a game jam is a contest for game developers players can try.
- The End of Workshop: Once a one-month intensive course concludes, Sandbox Academy pledges to host a pizza party to celebrate the students’ efforts and creativity
- Main Sponsor: It is funded by The Sandbox Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO).
- Country Lead: The Sandbox Academy will be led by known Pinoy crypto game developer Mark Joseph Bago.
Key Partnerships
As of this writing, Sandbox Academy has already secured two partnerships since its launch around the third week of October 2024.
NCST Education System: The National College of Science and Technology (NCST) is a TESDA-accredited institution that offers Technical and Vocational Education and Training in Dasmariñas, Cavite.
- The partnership was first announced by NCST President and CEO Emerson Atanacio on October 21, who also pledged his support to Sandbox Academy.
- There is still no announcement yet on when the month-long workshop on NCST will happen.

Greywolf Technologies Philippines: In this partnership, Sandbox Academy collaborated with Greywolf Technologies Philippines Inc. and the Cybersecurity Society of the Philippines.
- The workshop that Sandbox Academy will offer through the partnership will be open to both students and working individuals.
- According to Greywold Technologies Philippines, there will be a series of trainings, seminars, and campus tours happening from November to December 2024.
