Coingecko Reveals Top 10 Crypto in the Philippines in 2022

Coingecko exclusively revealed to BitPinas the top 10 most viewed cryptocurrencies on its website viewed by its users from the Philippines in 2022. 

Coingecko is a cryptocurrency data aggregator where users can monitor the prices of crypto, as well as other information such as market volume, list of exchanges, and general news. Markets analytics platform SimilarWeb says Coingecko’s traffic in December tops 29.9 million, with the Philippines the country with the third-most number of visitors to the Coingecko website last year.

With this, BitPinas reached out to Bobby Ong, the co-founder and COO of Coingecko to find out what are the most viewed cryptocurrencies in the Philippines on the Coingecko website in 2022:

Top 10: $WEMIX

Wemix Token (WEMIX) was launched in October 2022 by WeMade, the company behind the blockchain game MIR4, which was popular in the local crypto gaming community. 

Originally, the developers set up WEMIX as a stablecoin backed by USDC. The first plan to maintain its 1:1 ratio with USDC is that every time the value of $WEMIX exceeds 1 USDC, the protocol (called “DIOS”) will issue more WEMIX to repeg it back to the USDC value.

However, the fate of WEMIX turned sour as the Digital Asset eXchange Association (DAXA), an alliance formed by five local crypto exchanges in South Korea (Upbit, Korbit, Coinone, Bithumb, and Gopax), announced that they will delist WEMIX by December 2022. 

As of this writing, $WEMIX is trading at ₱19.71. Its all-time high last year was on January 2, 2022, at ₱523.14.

Top 9: $LUNA

Terra 2.0 (LUNA) is the new cryptocurrency on the Terra blockchain after a hard fork initiated by its founder Do Kwon in May 2022, days after the original LUNA crashed in price upon the implosion of UST, the stablecoin tied to LUNA.

As of this writing, $LUNA is trading at ₱85.03. Its all-time high last year was on May 31, 2022, at ₱551.02.

Top 8: $XRP

XRP (XRP) is the native token used by Ripple in the XRP ledger, which also integrated non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in November. 

In September 2022, $XRP surged as investors became bullish in anticipation of the resolution of the legal clash between Ripple and the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (US SEC) regarding its alleged violation of securities laws. Following this, Ripple Senior Vice President and Managing Director Brooks Entwistle visited the Philippines to expand I-Remit’s use of Ripple’s On-Demand Liquidity (ODL) solution.

As of this writing, $XRP is trading at ₱19.95. It reached ₱45.05 on February 10, 2022.

Top 7: $LUNC

Terra Luna Classic (LUNC) is the lone token left from the original Terra Chain that was rebranded as Terra Classic.

It was the original $LUNA that experienced the May 2022 crash with Terra 1.0’s algorithmic stablecoin, UST.

As of this writing, $LUNC is trading at ₱0.00898774. Its all-time high last year was on April 6, 2022, at ₱5,987.30. Its all-time low was recorded during the crash on May 13, 2022, at ₱0.00005237.

Top 6: $ETH

Ether ($ETH) is the fuel that runs the Ethereum network, a decentralized, open-source blockchain with smart contract functionality.

In 2022, the ethereum blockchain had its major upgrade, the Ethereum Merge, which transitioned the blockchain from a proof-of-work (PoW) to a fully proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus mechanism.

As of this writing, $ETH is trading at ₱73,384.58. Its all-time high last year was on January 1, 2022, at ₱188,007. Its all-time low was recorded during the crash on May 13, 2022, at ₱0.00005237.

Top 5: $CATE

Catecoin (CATE) is a pet-inspired meme coin. It was created to compete with the two other famous pet-inspired meme coins, Shiba Inu and Dogecoin. 

Along with this, CATE can be earned by playing the blockchain game “Rise of Cats.” It is also used to buy NFTs and other in-game products, including upgrades, in the game’s ecosystem. 

As of this writing, $CATE is trading at ₱0.00002611. Its all-time high last year was on August 7, 2022, at ₱0.00012537.

Top 4: $AXS

Axie Infinity (AXS) is the governance token of the blockchain game Axie Infinity. It can be used by the community for voting purposes once the Axie Infinity ecosystem becomes fully decentralized. 

Currently, AXS is awarded to the top gamers on the leaderboard for Axie Infinity: Origins and tournaments, like the tournaments that happened in the Cabanatuan and Axie Open Manila 2022

As of this writing, $CATE is trading at ₱396.60. Its all-time high last year was on January 3, 2022, at ₱4934.74.

Top 3: $BCOIN (BombCrypto)

BombCrypto (BCOIN) is the in-game token of Bombcrypto, a blockchain game inspired by the 1990s game Super Bomberman. 

As of this writing, $BCOIN is trading at ₱0.354475. Its all-time high last year was on January 15, 2022, at ₱201.93.

Top 2: $VIS

Vigorus (VIS) is the utility token of Pegaxy, a horse racing blockchain game.

Currently, it has a circulating supply of 6.3 billion and a total supply of 6,312,005,673.53208.

As of this writing, $VIS is trading at ₱0.00557136. Its all-time high last year was on February 3, 2022, at ₱12.19.

Top 1: $SLP

Smooth Love Potion (SLP) is the in-game token of Axie Infinity, which is now on its v3, the Axie Infinity: Origins. 

SLP can be earned every time a player wins over the opponent in a 3v3 match. It can then be used to breed Axie, which is an NFT, and other in-game items, like accessories. 

Currently, it has a circulating supply of 39,950,978,613, with an unlimited supply. 

In a survey in April 2022 that the community still sees the value of SLP as the most important part of the game, with a total vote of 71.3%.

As of this writing, $SLP is trading at ₱0.129947. Its all-time high last year was on February 11, 2022, at ₱1.78.
