The anonymous founders behind Hamster Kombat, the popular tap-to-earn game on the Telegram Mini-Apps Ecosystem, have confirmed that the $HMSTR token generation event (TGE) and airdrop are scheduled for September 26, 2024.

• The announcement was made by The Founders on the Hamster Kombat X account. 
• $HMSTR will be minted on The Open Network (TON). 
• The token is also expected to be listed on crypto exchanges the same day as the airdrop rewards will be distributed. 

The numbers: Hamster Kombat has

• 300 million players, as of July. 
• 80 million active players recorded for the past month. 
• 12.6 million X followers, as of August 29. 
• 35.3 million Youtube subscribers, as of August 29. 
• 52.2 million Telegram community, as of August 29.
  • Hamster Kombat still holds the record as the largest Telegram community. 

Zoom Out: The $HMSTR airdrop and TGE were initially scheduled for July.

• However, it was delayed because according to The Founders, they are still preparing for the “biggest airdrop in history,” through coordinating with the TON blockchain team. 
• To compensate for the delay, The Founders released a whitepaper, where the tokenomics of $HMSTR is written, where:
  • The 60% of the airdrop’s volume will be dedicated to the CEOs, which is how Hamster Kombat calls its players.
  • The 40% of the airdrop’s volume is reserved for providing market liquidity, ecosystem partnerships and grants, rewarding squads, and other initiatives.
• Consequently, the game developers also assured that Hamster Kombat has no external investors, as they only want $HMSTR to be acquired by just playing the game.
  • This can also ensure that the token price will not fluctuate, according to them.
• Pre-market trading activities for $HMSTR are currently available on ByBit and OKX. 

What to watch: The launch $HMSTR on TON blockchain could probably slow down the network. 

• It is because after another Telegram mini-app Dogs launched its own token, $DOGS, in late August caused TON to beoffline for hours following significant network congestion.

• In June, crypto influencer Shun expressed doubts about the hype surrounding the Telegram game Hamster Kombat, warning that it could harm the crypto industry if the game fails to meet expectations.
• In July, an Iranian official emphasized their concern after a report from the Associated Press revealed that the Telegram-based web3 game has seen surging interest in Iran, wanting the game to be banned on the country.
  • A military general also speculates that Hamster Kombat is part of the West’s “soft war” against Iran.
  • While other government officials also see the game as a tool for Iran nationals to absorb Western influence because the country struggles with high inflation, few jobs, and Western sanctions.

What’s next: Even if the “biggest airdrop in history” is not yet happening, The Founders already hinted in July that a second $HMSTR airdrop will be available for the CEOs.
