  • Bitcoin was the most searched cryptocurrency in 2022 with 28 million searches, according to DollarGeek.
  • Dogecoin was the second most searched cryptocurrency on Google this year, followed by Shiba Inu.
  • DollarGeek’s report noted that the dominant trends in cryptocurrency in 2022 can be divided into meme coins and crypto platforms, with Dogecoin potentially maintaining its place on the ranking in 2023 if integrated into Twitter.

As the year is about to end, online financial magazine DollarGeek revealed its analysis about the most Googled cryptocurrencies in 2022. Along with this study, the publication stated that, despite the ongoing crypto winter, crypto is still the most searched digital financial asset this year.

According to DollarGeek, there are over 40 million global searchers about the different cryptocurrencies in the world, with Bitcoin having 28 million searches.

What is interesting is that Dogecoin ranked as the second most global search in Google this year, with about 1.5 million more searches than Shiba Inu, which is referred to as the “DOGE killer.”

“Over the past two years, several new sectors emerged from the crypto industry. However, people are still attracted to Bitcoin due to its decentralized nature. 2022 has been a year of declining trust in a central authority,” DollarGeek said in a statement.

The Top 10 Global Crypto Google Searches are:

  • Bitcoin: 28.41 million
  • Dogecoin: 5.85 million
  • Shiba Inu:  4.43 million
  • Ethereum: 3.84 million
  • Cardano: 1.47 million
  • XRP: 1.30 million
  • Safemoon: 1.03 million
  • Avalanche: 861 thousand
  • Litecoin: 796 thousand
  • Lexus: 734 thousand

The report also added that the dominant trends in crypto can be divided into meme coins, such as DOGE and SHIB, and crypto platforms, such as ETH and AVAX.

“In this group, Dogecoin has a high chance of preserving its place on this ranking in 2023. The meme coin might see more utility if Elon Musk, owner of Twitter, integrates it with this platform,” an analysis of online publication BTC News emphasized.

Earlier this month, a security researcher exposed a “Twitter Coin” image and a “Coins” section in Twitter’s “Tips” feature. The revelation may be a sign that the social media giant will enter the crypto industry soon, especially since its CEO, Elon Musk, is active in the crypto space and is known as the “DOGE Father.”

In March, Google Trends showed that the terms “NFTs” and “Metaverse” are slowly resurging in the country’s search interests.

The interest in searching “Metaverse” peaked in October 2021 and was mainly searched in the National Capital Region (NCR), Region IV-A (CALABARZON), Region III (Central Luzon), Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and Region XI (Davao Region).
