Last Sunday, October 10, netizens flooded a tweet of A 10-year-old gamer with hearts as he shared his first payout treat to his grandfather and younger sister.

Eurie Miguel William, from Toboso, Negros Occidental, tweeted a photo of him together with his grandfather Ledwin Parnoncillon, 57, and sister Bweny Kyrie, 4, whom he took out for a date after he received his first payout from his scholarship playing Axie Infinty, a popular play-to-earn online game by Vietnam-based Sky Mavis.

“Thank [you] so much Sir @AxieBASS, my first payout [was] very memorable for I treat[ed] my grandfather [to some] snacks. They said ‘a full tummy is a happy tummy,’” William wrote in his tweet.

According to the Inquirer’s report, William’s mother, Wennie William, stated that her children’s grandpa was very happy with her son’s generosity. She added that Eurie fulfilled his promise to his grandfather by buying him siopao, footlong, and canned soft drinks, while his sister got some gummy candies and her favorite drink.

In the Philippines, where the majority of the early adopters and scholars of the game are situated, Axie Infinity was considered a game-changer in the lives of the many Filipinos, especially in this time of pandemic where a lot were left jobless. Amid the growing popularity of the game, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) warned the public against groups and individuals taking advantage of the circumstances, such as Pogi Breeds International, a group of individuals that plays Axie Infinity through soliciting investments from the public. Accordingly, although BIR is eyeing the game for taxes, SEC and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) stated that Axie Infinity is not required to register with them right now, however the regulating agencies noted that they are still closely monitoring the game.
