Sky Mavis, the developers of Axie Infinity, announced today the first batch of projects accepted in its Builders Program, an initiative that introduces user-generated content (UGC) in the Axie ecosystem.

What is the Builders Program?

The Builders Program is a project that aims to bring together and reward community developers who help the Axie Infinity ecosystem grow. The program is also meant to further strengthen the community’s ability to create gaming experiences and tools, while managing risk to their community members, and their gaming network at-large.

According to the developers, as the list of Axie-related games expands, Axie NFTs will turn into tickets that can be used as universal sign-in to an ever-expanding world of experiences.

“This program marks the first time a globally recognizable gaming IP is actively encouraging its community to use its brand to create new experiences–including ones they can monetize. The builders get to keep a significant portion of their revenue, with the rest going back directly to players or the community treasury.” –Sky Mavis

How many applied?

Sky Mavis noted that there over 2,000 submitted applications, and there are only twelve projects that have been accepted into the Builders Program

The chosen teams to be part of the program received a minimum $10,000 grant in AXS to go towards their project. The teams also acquired guidance from Sky Mavis engineering team, game design and product team as well as exclusive access to integrations such as Ronin SSO, Ronin Network testnet, and Ronin Wallet. The chosen team’s project will also receive promotion to the community by Sky Mavis itself.

Mech Infinity

One of the approved projects is Mech Infinity, a battle royale game where Axies control Mechs in epic battles using their unique abilities. The developers stated that this project “solidifies Axie’s mission to build alongside the community.”

Sky Mavis added that one important and unique component of community development in the Axie Infinity ecosystem though, is that even if community developers are not accepted into the official Builders Program, they are allowed to build and monetize Axie experiences as long as they abide by the guidelines outlined here.

“Community co-creation is a guiding north star of the Axie Infinity ecosystem and will be a fundamental driver of scaled-value generation over time. The Builders Program is the first step in a new world where the community can make significant and meaningful contributions directly toward games and projects they love and is one of many initiatives that will allow players to gain more enjoyment from the Axies they own. We can’t wait to see these projects come to life and look forward to seeing what the community will create next.” –Philip La, Game Product Lead at Axie Infinity

The developers remind the community that the Builders Program is separate from other initiatives, including enabling major game studios to develop original content games on the Ronin blockchain. Sky Mavis guaranteed that in the future, they will announce “world-class partnerships with some of the most exciting game makers in the world, ranging from indie to AAA studios.“  (Read more: Sky Mavis Wants Axies to be in Other Games Too)
