Bangon, Bicol! #CryptoPH Community Lend a Helping Hand to Super Typhoon Kristine’s Victims
Crypto communities and entities have combined their efforts and conducted relief operations in the Bicol region, one of the hardest-hit areas during the onslaught of Super Tropical Storm “Kristine” that resulted in massive flooding and multiple deaths.
What’s the significance: Despite the negative connotation that crypto is a scam and that enthusiasts are just here for money, helping those in need proves that the industry is a community, willing to assist each other.
Key Details: On October 24, 11:36 a.m., popular Filipino crypto influencer Coach Miranda Miner, or Arlone Paul Abello in real life, posted proof that he met online different entities to plan a relief operations campaign.
Partner Entities: The relief operations, tagged as “Tabang Na Para sa Bicol” campaign, were led by the Global Miranda Miner Group (GMMG), Abello’s community.
- GMMG Bicol Traders, its local community, served as the on ground partner and led the distribution of the relief bags

- IT education initiative Bicolit.org Inc.

- Bicol Blockchain Community, which consists of crypto startups in the region like Ownly, SparkPoint, and SparkLearn

The “Tabang Na Para sa Bicol” relief operations campaign was launched and donations were opened on October 24, 12:41 p.m.
Key Statistics: As of 4:00 p.m. on the same day of the campaign’s launch, the team had raised a total of ₱139,500.
- The first batch served 60 beneficiaries in Naga City, Camarines Sur, the second batch served 150 beneficiaries in Albay province, while the third update served 215 beneficiaries in San Mateo, Camaligan, Camarines Sur.

The relief operations concluded on October 31, 2024. In a post by GMMG, the Tabang Na Para sa Bicol campaign had:

- 587 Total Relief Packs Distributed
- 537 Households Served
- 22 On the Ground Volunteers
- 20 Individual Donors
- 6 Partner Organizations
- 5 Barangays Served

- In August 2022, CoinEx Charity, a non-profit organization under the crypto platform CoinEx, visited Mok Elementary School and Sta Anastacia-San Rafael High School during the Brigada Eskwela campaigns and brought school supplies worth over $2,000 to the students.
- In August 2024, CoinEx Charity participated in the Dyaryo Veritas Medical Mission and provided free 2D Echo screenings, medicines, and vitamins to children.
