BitPinas at King City of the South – Davao Crypto Meetup in Pictures

It was my first time joining the BitPinas team to travel by air. LUMIPAD ANG AMING TEAM to Davao City to cover events and meet the #CryptoPH community.
I have covered crypto events in Baguio City in Cordillera, Cabanatuan City in Central Luzon, Balanga City in Bataan, and other parts of Luzon.
But this is a first-time experience for me—we have to maximize everything so we will be productive in just a short span in Davao City, an almost 1,500 kilometers away from Metro Manila.
Join me as we walk through the BitPinas team’s experience on our three-day journey into the King City of the South.

Day 1: June 24, 2024
The Delayed Flight
It was not an easy day for us. Our scheduled flight was about 10:00 a.m., and we were already at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 by as early as 7:00 a.m.
However, on July 24, Metro Manila experienced severe flooding due to extreme weather conditions, causing our flight to be delayed by almost an entire day.

At around 9:00 p.m., we finally landed in Davao City. It had been a long day of waiting at the airport.

Day 2: July 25, 2024
At BitPinas, we always uphold the saying, “Reporters always wake up early.”
Not on this day. We planned to attend the opening ceremony of the Mindanao Traders Expo (MTE) 2024 at 8:00 a.m., but to our surprise, only our Editor-in-Chief woke up at the 6:00 a.m. alarm.
However, we also believe that journalists are not just early birds; they are also responsible.
Mindanao Traders Expo
Thus, we did our best to catch up with the ongoing MTE 2024. Lead Writer Shiela Bertillo and I were tasked with covering the event, while EIC Michael Mislos was scheduled to present a talk about the #CryptoPH 2024 report. Meanwhile, contributor Lance Domagas connected with the Davao community.

What I loved about the event was that the afternoon session on the first day of MTE 2024 was dedicated to talks from the web3 community in the country. Speakers included representatives from CoinEx Philippines, Coins.ph, NFT Davao, and Davao DeFi. There was also a panel discussion.

Plaque of Appreciation
We would also like to thank the team behind MTE 2024 for the recognition and a plaque of appreciation.

Right after the first day of MTE 2024 concluded, we immediately headed to the second event of the day. But before that, we had a new experience—traveling through Davao City by riding a jeepney.

Side Event: ICP Hub Global Townhall
While we were on our way to the second event, BitPinas Lead Writer Shiela Bertillo spoke at the ICP Hub Global Townhall via Twitter Space.

Davao Crypto Community Meetup
Down to our last event of the day: The BitPinas Davao Crypto Community Meetup.
You heard it right. It was an event organized by the BitPinas team. We give our heartfelt thanks to our partners and sponsors who supported us and made the meetup possible.
During the event, I was tasked with managing the registration table and handling the tech setup for the screen display. Shiela, on the other hand, took pictures and assisted me in posting live updates on the BitPinas social media pages.

Thank you also for the good food from the Meeting Grounds Cafe!

The whole event was informative. Along with enjoying the good food and drinks, we were energized by the presentations from our three sponsors—CoinEx Charity, Coins.ph, and The Whizkid Academy. They introduced their projects and educated the audience about web3, making the event both engaging and enlightening.

Moreover, as the night deepened, a panel discussion was held featuring The Whizkid Trader (Joseph Lejarde), The Resistance Trader (Boanerges Genove), Floi Wycoco of Coins.ph, Mark Manansala of Kave Guild, and Dell Omasas of CoinEx Philippines.
It was a balanced discussion—an informative and serious conversation with lots of jokes thrown in the middle. And I guess, the community loved them.

Lastly, the night concluded with a raffle from CoinEx Charity. Gladly, I saved the Wheel of Names. Congratulations to the winners!
But for me, the highlight of the meetup is when different web3 enthusiasts in Davao City attended the event. There were students, parents, airdrop hunters, known web3 personalities, and even Kave Guild.

Our second day in Davao was too long. But, of course, we still have things to do as a publication, such as article posting and social media updates. (And yes, after all these tasks, tulog agad!)
Day 3: July 26, 2024
Thirdy Third Cafe
The team also went to Thirdy Third Cafe, which is owned by one of Joseph Lejarde’s students. There, we met Joseph Lejarde, also known as The Whizkid Trader, his father, and the CoinEx Philippines Community Lead, Dell Omasas, and his wife.

The Flight Back Home
For the past two days, we knew we had a meaningful visit to Davao City. We peacefully returned Manila in the afternoon.

We would like to thank everyone who has been supporting BitPinas in delivering news, covering events, and hosting meetups since 2017.
Thank you also to the Davao Community who showed their interest in learning more about web3, blockchain, and crypto through the Mindanao Traders Expo 2024 and BitPinas Davao Community Meetup.
This publication is pledging to be active in covering web3 events that onboard web3 natives, deliver the latest news to the community, and host more meetups and webcasts.
WITH LOVE AND EYYYYY,
