50% of players in Telegram’s tap-to-earn games have never used crypto before, according to Gleb Kostarev, a former Binance executive and now CEO of Blum, a crypto platform on Telegram.

Blum has 50 million users, with half being newcomers to web3, Kostarev mentioned in an interview with Cointelegraph.

Why is this important:

Telegram could help bring mass adoption of crypto by introducing it to millions of new users.
However, there’s a need for better education so new users can avoid scams and safely navigate the crypto world.

Telegram could also help expand decentralized finance (DeFi) by avoiding restrictions from Apple and Google, which limit crypto and NFT use on mobile apps.
- Kostarev says 80% of users access exchanges through mobile devices, but DeFi growth has been slowed by these tech giants’ policies.

However: While Telegram could help open up crypto and DeFi to more people, the platform is facing increasing scrutiny as of late as its founder Pavel Durov was recently arrested in France for allegedly allowing illegal activity on the app.
