HBO’s upcoming documentary, “Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery,” is sparking new interest in the identity of Bitcoin’s creator, Satoshi Nakamoto.
- The documentary, airing on October 8, claims it will reveal who Satoshi really is—a question that has gone unanswered since Bitcoin was launched in 2008.
Many people betting on Polymarket believe the documentary will name Len Sassaman, a cryptographer, as Satoshi.
- Sassaman, who passed away in 2011, was involved in cryptography and was known for his strong support of privacy and decentralization.
- His death occurred shortly after Satoshi’s last public appearance.
Previous efforts to unmask Satoshi have been unsuccessful.
- In 2014, Newsweek wrongly identified a California man named Dorian Nakamoto as Satoshi, which he denied.
- Another high-profile case involved Australian scientist Craig Wright, who claimed to be Satoshi but was later proven false by a U.K. court.
Meanwhile, crypto traders are cashing:
- SASHA and ODIN are memecoins created based on Sassaman’s cats.
- Some think these coins could get bigger if the documentary does identify the late cryptographer as the real Satoshi Nakamoto.
Still, bettors on crypto platform Polymarket, or atleast more than 80% of them, believe the documentary will not provide solid proof of Satoshi’s identity.
