December 26, 2019 – Depending on who you ask, 2019 is another turbulent year for the crypto and blockchain industries. Globally, we’ve seen companies refocus their efforts or merge with others to survive. In the Philippines, we’ve read about more pending regulations, developments in the space, and more education drive. BitPinas sought the opinion of people who work in the blockchain and crypto industry in the Philippines, including leaders and influencers here and abroad on what they think about 2019 in general and what they look forward to in 2020.

Lance Pormarejo does Marketing and Business Development for Gameworks.io, a token-centric ecosystem for game publishers, game developers, players, items, and merchandise with a framework for monetization, security, and licensing. Lance is also Director at Launchgarage, a startup accelerator and tech innovation hub in Manila.

Can you please share the latest developments from your company/project/group this year?

Over the year we have developed our core products that will provide the gaming ecosystem, both online and offline, globally.

  • Launched the Gameworks Mobile Wallet (Android & iOS)
  • Roll-out of the Philippines’ first blockchain-based Arcade Machine
  • Launched Gameworks Game Central Beta
  • Established partnerships with payment channels, game publishers, and commercial partners

Please share a personal highlight for you this year in the crypto and blockchain community.

The product development and beta launch of our services at Gameworks served as a personal highlight to me. With the help of the entire community through the feedback and suggestions they have provided, along with the partnerships and collaborations we’ve created along the way with BlockchainSpace Philippines, Acceler8 by UNIONSPACE, and POSible to name a few, the ecosystem we have initially imagined is starting to take shape.

What do you think is the most important blockchain and/or crypto development in the Philippines/Globally in 2019?

I think that 2019 was a year wherein most of the blockchain-based/cryptocurrency projects shifted their focus towards creating meaningful projects rather than doing token sales with only a whitepaper to back. The ICO/IEO craze has died down, educating both retail investors and blockchain projects to focus on what matters most — Developing protocols, use-cases, and community.

What is your company/project/group looking forward to this 2020 in this space?

Gameworks is marching towards our product launch which will give us the ability to provide our products and services to a wider market both locally and internationally.

As we further build our gaming ecosystem, we are looking towards onboarding more game publishers (Both online and offline), commercial partners (who can utilize the ecosystem), and users to participate.

The integration of both traditional businesses and innovative startups is something that we are also looking to bridge through the Gameworks ecosystem.

What do you personally look forward to in this space?

I look forward to the development of more use-cases within the industry. Use-cases that are viable and solve an actual problem while truly utilizing blockchain technology.

Moreover, I also expect to see the development of better user experience of blockchain projects which will lead us towards the emergence of early adopters. User experience was something that most people had troubles with, with regards to the industry.

I also look forward to the wider acceptance of bitcoin, not only as a store of value but also as a transactional asset that people can use.
