Interview with Ritch Traballo of NexHire

On NexHire’s Initiative to Create a Quarterly Tech Career Fair

Nathaniel Cajuday, Junior Editor, BiPinas: During the event, you announced that this web3 and tech career fest will happen quarterly. What was the motivation behind this decision?

Ritch Traballo, Chief Executive Officer, NexHire: There are two reasons why we want to have a career fest. One, we really want to give more avenues for more people to explore opportunities and network. I think those are the two main things—upscale and network, so they are able to dive deeper and learn about the tech space.

Second, we realized that there are a lot of career fairs in the Philippines but we saw them as one time-big time event only once per year. So what we’re thinking is why not we make it a per quarterly event to give more people a chance to explore the tech industry.

Our vision here is to get more tech companies—developers, creatives, and any tech industry-related roles. And hopefully, we get to immerse people in that kind of scene and industry.

That’s why in this career fest, we have two main goals. In upskilling, we have educational vendors, workshops, and anything that will help upskill improve their skills and CVs.In networking, once you get to know the right people and you build the right connections, it will be easier for you to immerse and learn more about the space itself.

Cajuday: So what are the initial plans? Like, will the fest happen in different places and cities, or would you visit schools?

Traballo: Ideally, we plan to cater more to young professionals. Yes, we have some plans on tapping into schools, but our main priority are those people ‌who are already in the industry working or those people who are doing ‌freelance work who want to shift their career to the tech industry.

Although we do cater for students and for universities who are looking for internships for them to start their journey in the tech industry but we are more focusing on ‌young professionals already.

In terms of place, we are still planning but definitely the future fests will happen in different places. But we are still planning whether we’re gonna have it either here in Metro Manila or expand it on Visayas or Mindanao. But definitely, the goal here is to give opportunities to other people.

On Importance of Web3 and Tech-Focused Career Fests

Cajuday: For you, how important are career fests like this that focus on web3 and tech?

Traballo: Well, it is not just for me. My co-founder Justine Wee and Gabriel Fordan and our team at NexHire really believe that this is the future. A lot of opportunities are here, and we want to give that opportunity to other people. I think its a matter of looking at it that this is the big thing and we want people to ride into this big thing.

On NexHire’s Future Plans

Cajuday: Lastly, let us talk about NexHire as a platform. What is next for NexHire? Would you just focus on web3 and tech or do you want to expand to other industries?

Traballo: So definitely, our main priority for NexHire is the emerging tech industry. We have web3 companies, developer agencies, and those people who are in the tech industry but are looking for either marketing, creatives, developers, and that range of skill set. We want to focus on those people.
