Multiple players from the financial technology (fintech) industry attended the launch of the Paleng-QR Ph Program, an initiative by Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to build the digital payments ecosystem in the Philippines by promoting cashless payments in public markets and local transportation on February 10, 2023, Coins.ph announced

Alongside the launch, tricycle drivers and market vendors in the city were educated on the ease of accepting digital payments via QR PH, the national standard for QR payments.

As early as 2021, former BSP Governor Benjamin Diokno emphasized that the Central Bank’s efforts in launching QR PH is a turning point in the country’s digital transformation journey.

According to Coins, some officials from the government that were present during the kick-off including Naga City Mayor Nelson Legacion and Vice Mayor Cecilia Veluz – De Asis, BSP Governor Felipe Medalla and Deputy Governor Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, and DILG-Region V OIC-Municipal Local Government Operations Officer of Milaor, Camarines Sur Atty Hazel Deocareza.

Moreover, the fintech firm was said to distribute e-wallet giveaways and exclusive merchandise for those who have signed up and verified their account on the Coins’ booth during the launch. 

“Coins.ph will be working closely with ​​BSP and DILG to extend QR PH payments into Lapu Lapu City on February 17, 2023,” Coins.ph hinted.

In December 2022, the fintech firm integrated with the QR PH standard along with the launch of its “Pay with QR” service on its platform which is a new feature that will allow Coins Wallet users to make convenient cashless payments to merchants and businesses throughout the country.

Coins.ph will also co-host the first-ever Bitcoin Island Retreat with Pouch.ph from March 27 to 29, 2023.
