Local telecommunication companies are now fully prepared to execute a nationwide block on the online gaming platform Roblox, following a high-level coordination meeting with the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) and the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC).

The threat of a ban has significantly escalated as the government accelerates its timeline for regulatory action against the platform over severe child safety concerns.

The agency confirmed that it is actively working with the NTC and internet service providers to finalize the technical logistics of the ban.

During a recent meeting held in Quezon City between the CICC, NTC, and local telcos, the telecommunications companies officially committed to complying with the directive to block access to both the Roblox application and its website once the formal order is issued, the agency said in a statement on their website.

Ultimatum Slashed in Half

The government’s patience appears to be wearing thin.

Initially, the CICC issued a 30-day ultimatum requiring Roblox to formally respond and address reports that its platform was being exploited by bad actors, including pedophiles and drug traffickers targeting underage users.

However, the agency has now drastically shortened that window for engagement to just 15 days.

“Kaya binigyan na lang namin sila ng 15 days to reach out to the government, the DICT and the CICC in particular, to discuss why we shouldn’t restrict their platform in the Philippine jurisdiction,” CICC Executive Director Undersecretary Renato “Aboy” Paraiso stated.

He emphasized the extreme urgency of the situation, noting that the government is dealing with issues that go far beyond standard moderation failures. “Because nga lahat, not only harmful contents but illegal contents that are happening within their platform.”

A Warning to Parents

As the 15-day countdown continues, the CICC issued a direct appeal to Filipino parents and guardians.

The agency urged families to actively monitor their children’s online activities and digital interactions to ensure their safety while the regulatory standoff between the Philippine government and Roblox Corporation remains unresolved.

    1. Roblox should not be banned in the Philippines because it provides a platform for creativity, learning, and social interaction where millions of players can design games, explore different worlds, and connect with others. Instead of placing the blame on the game itself, responsibility should lie with parents who allow their children to access content that may not be suitable for their age without proper guidance or supervision. Like many online platforms, Roblox already has safety features and age settings, but these tools are only effective if parents actively use them. Banning the game would also be unfair to the many users who have spent significant time, effort, and money on their accounts, purchases, and creations. Therefore, rather than banning Roblox, a better solution is for parents to be more involved, set limits, and guide their children’s online experiences responsibly.
