A Filipino startup, AQWIRE by Qwikwire, sent an email to its newsletter subscribers warning them about an email phishing scam posing to be sent by the company’s CEO, Mr. Ray Refundo.

According to the newsletter, the scammer uses Mr. Refundo’s name to con people. On the email, the fake Mr. Refundo shares his enthusiasm about the ICO’s success and asks for 10 ether to the wallet address included.

As we checked the ETH address via etherscan, it has 14 transactions that were mostly outgoing for the past 16 days. Its last incoming transaction was around July 5th and the warning newsletter was sent on July 24th. Based on the address records, it didn’t receive any 10 ETH from anyone.

The AQWIRE team was able to jump on the situation right away and gave out a warning on its official telegram account: https://t.me/AQWIRE and its official newsletter. The blockchain-powered real estate platform reminded its users to ignore other emails from anyone aside from its official token sale email: crowdsale@aqwire.io and support email: support@aqwire.io.

Companies who are hosting an ICO are usually the target of these scammers. They either phish on email or via telegram asking for a certain amount of crypto, usually ether. If ever you received such email or telegram message, simply disregard or report it to the company’s admins.
