Atari to Put Two Games on the Blockchain

Atari is putting 2 of its mobile games on the blockchain with the help from blockchain startup, Animoca Brands Limited.

December 20, 2018. Atari, an iconic video game company is putting 2 of its mobile games on the blockchain with the help from blockchain startup, Animoca Brands Limited.

The two companies signed a licensing agreement that will grant Animoca Brands the rights to produce and publish blockchain versions of two Atari mobile games. The two games are RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch and Goon Squad. These two will get published globally excluding China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macau.

The agreement that will extend until March 31, 2022 and will integrate non-fungible tokens (NFT) into the two games. It is expected to be delivered in the latter half of 2019.

Atari and Animoca Brands also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to develop a strategic partnership in order to explore mutual opportunities in gaming, product development, blockchain, etc.

Aside from Atari, a known brand, Walt Disney Company Southeast Asia, has signed a one-year collaboration with PlayGame to deliver its games to PlayGame’s blockchain-based gaming platform. The two will collaborate to put a collection of game titles that will include popular Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and Olaf.

The Managing Director of Gumi Asia, Mr. Ronnie Tan, believes that “Play to Earn” is the future of blockchain gaming and gaming in general during his speech at the 2018 GameFest Conference.
