Blockchain Smart City Project in the Philippines Spearheaded by BCB Global, QBO, & Animo Labs

Singapore-based BCB Blockchain signed a Memorandum of Agreement with two leading Technology Business Incubators (TBIs) – QBO Innovation Hub and Animo Labs to build a blockchain ecosystem for smart cities projects and applications.

(Manila, Philippines) June 10, 2019 – Singapore-based BCB Blockchain signed a Memorandum of Agreement with two leading Technology Business Incubators (TBIs) – QBO Innovation Hub and Animo Labs to build a blockchain ecosystem for smart cities projects and applications.

A “Smart City” relies on the availability of data and technologies to improve the lives of state citizens and businesses that inhabits the city.  One of predominant technology in this era is blockchain.

Building Cities Beyond (BCB) Blockchain is a platform for building smart city solutions that will work with TBIs to contribute towards the breakthrough of blockchain technology as a strategic platform to accelerate the development of smart city applications and projects in emerging countries like the Philippines, with the vision to build eco-friendly cities.

“We are very excited to partner with QBO Innovations and Animo Labs TBI. The Philippines, like Singapore, has a much bigger and more robust talent pool of blockchain developers and Filipinos are very efficient in communicating in English,”  Vanessa Koh   Co-CTO BCB BlockChain

BCB Blockchain CEO and co-founder Douglas Gan said:

“We will provide platform and access to funding for startups interested in developing blockchain technologies.”

QBO is the Philippines’ first private-public partnership platform for Filipino startups created through the collaboration of IdeaSpace, J.P Morgan, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). Its “innovations hub” is a venue to facilitate connections among relevant stakeholders in the Filipino startup system.

“We are pleased to work closely with BCB in establishing their BCB Blockchain platform and technology at QBO Hub to create a new generation of smart city application,”said Ms. Katrina Rausa Chan, Director of QBO Innovation Hub.

Animo Labs is a technology business incubator formed via a partnership between DLSU and DOST PCIEERD. It aims to provide an easily accessible and democratized platform for prototyping and innovations.

“Through the mutual collaboration between Animo labs and BCB, we hope that our technological expertise and access to a wide range of research institutions will help to build and promote the growth of blockchain and smart city projects,” said Mr. Federico C. Gonzales, Executive Director of Animo Labs.

The initiative is also supported by UPSCALE Innovation Hub of The University of the Philippines. Mr. Jhaze Asuncion, Business Development Lead said, “There are great ideas coming from universities the BCB Technology Platform will be the highway wherein these ideas can be thrown and test in the market.”

To support the initiative, incoming events will be launched such as hackathons, competitions, and bug bounty programs towards the end of 2019. Prizes will be up to $15,000 for participating winners and selected projects will be given opportunities to participate in the incubation programs for commercialization and fundraising.
