June 25, 2019 – Google Trends data from the Philippines reveals peak interest in Bitcoin this June 2019 vs the last 12 months.
Google Trends shows how frequent a given search term is typed into Google relative to the total volume over a period of time. Looking at Google Trends data, the number of users in Google.com.ph typing “Bitcoin” into the search engine has reached peak interest during the week of June 2-8, 2019 for the period of 12 months. The 2nd and 3rd peak search interest were during the weeks of May 26 – June 1, 2019 and June 16 – 22, 2019. The graph below reveals how search interest wavered during the long bull market and how it picked up again during the week of March 31, 2019, when Bitcoin slashed through the entire $4,000 to $4,900, a $900 increase that has not happened for many months before.
The search term “cryptocurrency” also experienced the same search interest cycle albeit to a smaller scale versus “Bitcoin”.
Interest by Subregion and Cities
During the period of 12 months, “Bitcoin” is most popular in Southern Philippines in areas labeled by Google as “Davao Region”, “Caraga”, and “Region XII”. Search interest is highest in the cities of Tagum, Davao, and General Santos.
Related queries are searches that users searching for “Bitcoin” on Google are also searching for. The top related queries are “free bitcoin”, “bitcoin price”, and “php to bitcoin”. This means many are still looking at the price of Bitcoin against the peso.
While search queries for “Bitcoin” have peaked in the last 12 months, it was in December 2017 when Bitcoin search interest is at its peak on Google.com.ph. This can be attributed to the cryptocurrency reaching all-time high during that period. At the same time, Bitcoin’s value has reached its highest value versus the last 12 months this June 2019.
