August 16, 2019 – Brave Browser, the popular browser that allows users to get paid in crypto by consuming content (and also allowing users to tip BAT Coins to content creators) is now adding support for more native cryptocurrency wallets.

First appearing on the dev build of Brave – Brave Nightly – the browser now supports Ledger and Trezor and other wallets. As per Coindesk:

“The update allows other cryptocurrency wallets, particularly MetaMask, to be used with Brave’s BAT. All transactions first undergo know your customer (KYC) requirements via Uphold, a wallet Brave partnered with for BAT.”

An ongoing complaint with Brave is users’ inability to use other wallets like MetaMask or MyEtherWalet. However, Brave did not support them so that its token’s use case – content creation tipping – will take off first. The browser’s initial wallet – Uphold – requires KYC and cannot be used by users in countries like Syria and Iran.

For now, users must first verify their identities via Uphold so that they can send BAT coins (the tokens in Brave) to other wallets.
