October 1, 2019 – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has made renewing business names easier by partnering with e-payment platforms so that proprietors can renew their business registration online.

As per local paper The Inquirer, DTI signed agreements with PayMaya, GCash, and LinkBiz so that businesses will have the convenience of renewing their business registrations online through these online payment platforms. GCash is a subsidiary of mobile telco Globe while PayMaya is backed by Smart/PLDT. LinkBiz is an e-payment platform by Land Bank of the Philippines.

DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez said that long queues will soon be a thing of the past in the government department as they constantly improve their front-line services “to become on par with international standards.”

Paying business registrations online means the proprietors do not need to go to the DTI to pay for it. Also, proprietors can pay even outside DTI business hours.

“Our agreement with e-payment platforms completes our business name registration system as we are now able to provide our citizens the convenience of having to transact with DTI through their mobile phones in the comfort of their homes, or wherever they are, 24/7,” said Sec. Lopez.

Many government services and dues can now be paid online albeit through different platforms. For example, Filipinos can use GCash to pay for their SSS online or Coins.ph for their NSO bills.
