You Can Now Use Dapps on Any Desktop Browser With Coinbase

The company announced they have open-sourced WalletLink to make it available to any Dapp and wallet developers who want to test or integrate it.

August 23, 2019 – Through “WalletLink” Coinbase wallet can now interact with Dapps in desktop browsers.

As per the Coinbase blog, WalletLink will “act as a secure bridge” between the Coinbase Wallet app and the desktop browser. All the user has to do is scan the WalletLink QR code, allowing them to use Dapps anywhere while the funds are still safe and secure on the Wallet app.

With this, Coinbase said users on desktop browsers will not need to resort to installing “browser extensions” and “copy-pasting private keys” across devices.

Wallet link can be tried on the latest version of the Coinbase wallet. As of today, the following Dapps are supported by WalletLink:

  • Compound
  • dYdX
  • IDEX
  • Maker

If the user visits any of the supported Dapps, they can click the option to connect to Coinbase wallet. Scan the QR code which will then create a secure encrypted link between the wallet and the browser. Approve the access to finally connect with the Dapp. Any transactions initiated will have the user notified on their phones for approval of the transaction.

Coinbase also said users don’t have to scan the QR code each time they want to use a new Dapp. WalletLink has been tested in Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Brave, and Opera browsers. Coinbase is planning to roll out support for native mobile apps and more currencies in the future.

Finally, the company announced they have open-sourced WalletLink to make it available to any Dapp and wallet developers who want to test or integrate it.
