The FIFA World Cup is coming this 2018 in Russia and the ticket organizers of this quadrennial event are harnessing the power of the blockchain to fight ticket fraud and ticket scalping.

One of the biggest problems that face event organizers today is ticket scalping. Through the use of the blockchain in distributing a number of tickets for FIFA 2018, organizers hoped that this will be disrupted.

BlocSide Sports, a ticketing partner for FIFA 2018 will use the Aventus Protocol. It is an open-source platform riding on the ethereum network. This will build a decentralized application that will help manage the ticketing supply chain for the event.

Aventus is a digital platform that handles mobile ticketing and suites that can increase fan engagement.

This is the first large-scale application of the Aventus Protocol. It will handle roughly 10,000 FIFA tickets around Europe and US.

The ticketing system on the blockchain has control over the supply chain. It will create “rule-based” tickets that the ticketing supply chain must adhere even after the tickets leave the inventory. It can also approve which businesses in the supply chain can have access to the inventory. The most important of all is to define the prices on resale and completely eliminate counterfeit tickets.
