New Job Ads Suggests Mastercard is Targeting the Crypto Wallet Space

August 6, 2019 – New job postings by global payments solution Mastercard suggest that the multinational financial services company is going to spend some of its efforts in developing cryptocurrency wallets or blockchain solutions.
The first role – “Director, Product Management – Crypto currency/ Wallets” will be using his or her expertise in payments and cryptocurrency to identify opportunities, work with across different teams (in Compliance, Regulation, Labs, etc) in “developing new products and solutions”. The person in this role will also become the “go-to” person within Mastercard for “cryptocurrency education, thought leadership, and product roadmap knowledge”. The person must have experience in managing cryptocurrency wallet products and in-depth knowledge of blockchain and crypto ecosystems.
As for the role of “VP, Product Management – Blockchain/Crypto”, the person will lead a team of product managers from ideation to development of “innovative blockchain solutions including wallet solutions”. The person must already have experience managing cryptocurrency wallet products in the past.
Finally, as for the role of “Director, Product Development & Innovation – Blockchain Solutions Architect”, the person will be responsible in identifying innovative solutions “that have strategic fit and value to Mastercard’s customers and partners”. This person must have an in-depth understanding of payment solutions, cryptographic algorithms, blockchain and cryptocurrency ecosystems, private and public blockchains, as well as experience building and contributing to well-known blockchain and/or crypto projects.
Mastercard, which has filed patents related to blockchain and cryptocurrency in the past, is recently one of the founding partners of Facebook’s Libra Blockchain, responsible for the governing, development, and improvement of Facebook’s highly scrutinized blockchain project.
