September 4, 2019 – Cryptocurrency Exchange OKCoin announces a campaign to donate up to 1,000 BTC to developers of Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, and Bitcoin Satoshi’s Vision (BSV).

From September 23 – 27, 2019, in a campaign called “Let’s Build Bitcoin Together,” users can go to OKCoin to vote for the project they would like to receive the donation. For each vote, the developer will receive from OKCoin 0.02 BTC (or its equivalent in Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin SV.)

OKCoin is one of the earliest crypto exchanges, having been established in 2013. As such, according to CEO Tim Byun, the company is “especially invested in the development of the ecosystem.” He said in a statement:

“The ‘Let’s Build Bitcoin Together!’ initiative, which we believe is the first exchange-led community investment of this scale, is our way of showing our commitment and dedication to the Bitcoin community. Developers are, and will continue to be, key to improving the accessibility of digital assets, which is the heart of the OKCoin mission. That being said, we hope to give the full 1,000 BTC away, but we need people to get out there and vote!”

As mentioned, the users need to vote for the project who will receive the donation. However, the user must pass KYC Level 2 and has deposited at least 100USD (or equivalent) in their OKCoin account. According to OKCoin, this is to ensure that the voting is fair and that bots are not voting on the projects. For existing users of OKCoin who have completed KYC and the deposit requirements, they are eligible to vote right away. Donations will be sent to the winning developers two weeks after the campaign end date (or by October 11, 2019). Because the donations are intended for furthering the development of the projects and the overall ecosystem, OKCoin does not impose any restrictions or monitoring on how the donations will be spent.

As of press time, 0.16 BTC ($1,6393.70) has been raised.
