(Manila, Philippines) May 8, 2019 – Australian firm Blockchain Collective hosted a Blockchain Accounting Workshop to train Accounting and Finance students with fundamental knowledge on blockchain at the San Beda University.

Blockchain Collective, an Australian government-accredited initiative is a blockchain education body aimed to train educators and students on blockchain and distributed ledger technologies. They conducted a Blockchain Accounting Workshop from May 2 – 3, 2019 at the San Beda University with 200 Accounting and Finance Students, aiming to give them knowledge about this new technology.

Demand for blockchain talent has been growing. Naturally, much of this demand is for developers, programmers who will code. The Blockchain Collective believes its special course “1074NAT Advanced Diploma of Applied Blockchain” can empower students to apply blockchain in businesses. Austin Lewinsmith, co-founder of Blockchain Collective believes this is the gap in the current market for blockchain talent.

The 2-day workshop in San Beda looked at understanding the foundations of blockchain, history, terms, market potential, and use cases. Currently, the Blockchain Collective is offering 1-day to 5-day workshops for firms, schools, or any organization that considers shifting to blockchain systems.

Mr. Joseph Chua, Blockchain Collective director in the Philippines said they aim for the Philippines to be a leading hub for blockchain talent.

With competitive rates, a large number of English-speaking Filipinos, and thousands of IT graduates yearly, the country can definitely serve this demand. NEM Philippines, for example, earlier recognized this talent demand and have pushed for blockchain courses in partner universities, like Lyceum of the Philippines Manila and Ateneo De Manila University. NEM Philippines have funded Amberlab, a blockchain research think tank within Ateneo that is in partnership with MediXserve. UnionBank of the Philippines recently announced new graduates of its recently formed Blockchain Institute.

There are also various blockchain workshops and hackathons happening in the country. Online courses are also available for those who want to learn blockchain at the comforts of their home, but this writer thinks certifications from authority institutions, such as universities, government-accredited firms, will give more weight to such blockchain courses in the future.
