October 28, 2019 – Leading application software SAP Philippines urges local government units (LGUs) in the Davao region to utilize new technology to improve their proccesses.

SAP Philippines introduced SAP S/4 HANA, a new enterprise resource planning (ERP) software that allows for consolidation of data in real-time, thereby making data available for use immediately in decision-making. For example, instead of writing reports by hand, it will just be downloaded letting the user go immediately to the decision-making process. According to SAP Corporate Affairs Virna Naomi Venturanza, “leaders can make more strategic decisions because the manual processes are lessened, thereby allowing people to focus on other tasks needed to run a city.”

SAP Philippines Managing Director Edler Panlilio said the software can also integrate other technologies like artificial intelligence and blockchain:

“Blockchain is also something that you can put to the LGUs like when you start tracking assets at certain milestones from the design phase, production phase, down to the operational phase, you are able to detect those milestones. It is being used in banks also.”

One major use case of blockchain is for tracking. Blockchain is immutable, which means fraudulent players can’t alter data. Blockchain is also decentralized; data is not in a single server. This means there’s always a way to retrieve data just in case a node fails.

Another company, XLOG is an end-to-end digital logistics platform that helps businesses manage their shipments. 100% developed in the Philippines, it leverages new technologies to create “complete documentation of door-to-door shipment from the country of origin to the country of destination.” Leveraging blockchain technology, chief operations officer (COO) Joey Union said it is impossible to “tamper or manipulate information,” disallowing anyone to do shady transactions because any data inputted are immutable.
