The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Australia is now tapping cryptocurrency mining to raise funds for children.

UNICEF Australia is harnessing its supporters’ computing power to mine cryptocurrency. The charity institution launched a website that mines cryptos by just having it running in the background.

Supporters can go to https://www.thehopepage.org/ and donate their computer’s processor power. As said on its website, the bigger processor power is donated, the more algorithms solved, thus the charity earns more cryptocurrency. Also, the longer the user stays on the site, the more cryptocurrency earned.

“Mining is perfectly safe for your computer. If you’re ever worried about power consumption, turn down the amount of processing power you’re donating.” – UNICEF

Cryptocurrency earned from the mining will go directly to the children’s funds. These funds will then help the non-profit get life-saving supplies like safe water, therapeutic food, and vaccines.

Ms. Jennifer Tierney, the Director for Fundraising and Communications for UNICEF Australia, said that the organization is seeking new technologies to raise awareness about current humanitarian crises and also seeking out donations from its supporters.

As of this writing, 2,032 people have donated. UNICEF Australia also invites people to make the site their homepage to give daily donations.

You can go to UNICEF Australia’s website: https://www.thehopepage.org/ if you want to donate.
