Former Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) import Renaldo Balkman introduced earlier this month his own Balkmania Worldwide NFT Collection, a series of non-fungible token (NFT) that includes Philippine-inspired items – his gaming experience in the Philippines.
Balkman, who played in National Basketball Association (NBA) for six years under Denver Nuggets and New York Knicks, released 46 NFTs for sale, 11 of which are Philippine-inspired, all of which were made by digital designer Steve Cupart, and are currently available on selling on NFT marketplaces SolSea and OpenSea.
The most expensive Philippine-inspired item, a 1-of-1 Balkmania Philippines NFT, will offer the buyer signed memorabilia and a virtual meet-and-greet with Balkman for 0.03 Wrapped Ethereum (WETH), or roughly P5,400.
Buyers can also add to their cart other Pinoy NFTs that are made up of 28 minted items that cost at least 0.02 WETH each (more or less P3,600).
The 46 NFTs that Balkman launched for sale are the collections of his gaming experiences in Puerto Rico (his nationality), NBA teams (Nuggets and Knicks), PBA (Petron Blaze Boosters and San Miguel Beermen), and Philippine Import on Asean Basketball League (San Miguel Alab Pilipinas), and other parts of the world.
Filipinos have a “memorable” moment with Renaldo Balkman – when import Balkman melted down then grabbed and choked his teammate Arwind Santos of Petron Blaze Boosters way back 2013.
On the other hand, PBA local players like Gabe Norwood, Jared Dillinger, and Joe Devance also launched their own NFTs already, available in marketplaces like Mars Cats Voyage, Cyber Kongz, and Sup Ducks.
The NFT community in the Philippines has been growing rapidly since the pandemic. The market’s main interests are NFT games, NFT arts, and NFT collectibles.
Recently, a lot of happenings in the NFT community of the country occurred, one of these is the Philippines’ First Story Book NFT at Frankfurt Book Fair, and another one is Heart Evangelista’s launching of her own NFT.
