- Metaverse-focused gaming platform The Sandbox launched an NFT collection inspired by Gordon Ramsay, a celebrity chef that earned a total of 17 Michelin Stars and the host of the reality cooking show, “Hell’s Kitchen.”
- According to the gaming platform, the 2,333 Ramsay-inspired avatars, which can be used to roam and play games inside the blockchain-enabled metaverse platform was available from March 14, 2023.
- The Sandbox first secured a partnership with ITV Studios, the distributor of the “Hell’s Kitchen” show. The NFT collection was confirmed by Ramsay on his Twitter account, which has 7.7 million followers.
Seventeen-Michelin-Star-chef and host of the reality cooking show “Hell’s Kitchen,” Gordon Ramsay, releases a non-fungible token (NFT) collection on The Sandbox, a metaverse gaming platform.
According to The Sandbox, the 2,333 Ramsay-inspired avatars was available beginning March 14, 2023, can be used to roam and play games inside the blockchain-enabled metaverse platform.
Prior to this, The Sandbox first secured a partnership with ITV Studios, the distributor of the “Hell’s Kitchen” show. Hell’s Kitchen is a five-time Emmy-nominated reality cooking show where participants compete for a chance to become the head chef of one of Ramsay’s restaurants.
As per The Sandbox, it was the platform’s first cooking-themed game, where players can virtually create dishes, collect recipes, and join competitions to be head chefs. Moreover, the Ramsay-inspired avatars are expected to be used as profile pictures on The Sandbox, giving their holders additional utility and recognition across the board.
The Sandbox’s new NFT collection was confirmed by Ramsay on his Twitter account, which has 7.7 million followers.
“There’s nothing more exciting to me than chartering new territory, whether that’s creating a signature dish, a new restaurant concept, a new show, or now a virtual experience in The Sandbox. I’ve been fascinated by The Sandbox and its offering in the metaverse. I couldn’t think of a better platform to bring the high energy of my Hell’s Kitchen restaurant and brand,” the celebrity chef stressed.
This is not the first time that the metaverse gaming giant has released an NFT avatar collection of a known personality. In April last year, The Sandbox dropped the avatar collector based on web3 enthusiast and musical celebrity Snoop Dogg. OpenSea reported that the collection has generated nearly $12 million in trading volume.
However, in October, Animoca Brands founder Yat Sui, who is the majority owner of The Sandbox, expressed that a low player count for web3 games is not enough to measure a game’s worth, explaining that user transactions do not reflect the final engagement on a platform, as some of them prefer holding onto their NFTs to use in the game, rather than selling them. It is after reports showed that the gaming giant only had 500 daily active users at that time.
Prior to that, in August, The Sandbox announced its collaboration with Korean gaming company Gravity to bring the popular MMORPG game Ragnarok into the metaverse.
While in the Philippines, the country’s “most crypto-friendly bank,” Union Bank of the Philippines (UnionBank), announced in October 2022, that it will soon enter the metaverse by getting into The Sandbox. The venture is said to be a nod to the bank’s “Tech-up Pilipinas” advocacy, aiming to promote innovation by engaging and empowering the Filipino web3 community and artists through activities in the metaverse.
