With the election over and former strongman’s son and namesake Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. proclaimed as the next president of the Philippines, some collectors are wondering what is next for Bity Presidente?

What is Bity Presidente?

Bity Presidente, a collection of 2,022 PFP non-fungible tokens (NFT), is an initiative of a group of volunteer supporters of Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Gerona Robredo in her bid to run for the presidency. All of the proceeds of the project were pledged to support and empower VP Leni’s other volunteer groups for the 2022 Philippine National Elections.

Aside from the NFT earnings, the Bity Presidente group also created merchandise like caps and shirts not just for its community members but also for the wider supporter group of their presidential bet. 100% of the revenue for these initiatives was also donated to other volunteer groups.

“We’ve always been transparent with our objective and that was to raise funds and awareness for VP Leni’s presidential campaign. We did not anticipate anything after May 10 since from the very beginning, we looked at it as a simple fund-raising project using Web3 rather than an actual NFT project. Obviously, the NFTs will remain on the blockchain and will continue to serve as a remembrance of how we used Web3 for good and we’re all capable of it as long as we work together.” –Dijo Songco, Project Lead

According to RA Noriega, Marketing Representative of the project, what Bity Presidente achieved throughout the duration of the campaign until now is only a small fraction of their presidential bet’s impact.

“Bity Presidente was a microcosm of the impact of VP Leni on her supporters. It brought people together believing in better governance. It inspired people to volunteer and devote their time and money to building this project. It created a community – 600+ in Discord, 2,200 in Twitter, 1,700 in Instagram– ready to continue helping the country in any way. Ultimately, it showed the power of Web3 to impact the real world,”

Community Manager Robby Fernandez noted that despite the election results, “Bity Presidente can stick to its core goal of allowing people in the crypto/NFT to give a little of their gains to help worthy causes in the Philippines.”

“Bity highlighted the different platforms of Leni’s campaign, and we can continue to run the project as a channel for Web3 funding for those platforms. Just as we’ve worked with volunteer groups in the past, it would make sense that we would try to coordinate or even collaborate with the Angat Buhay NGO in the future. Maybe our utilities can expand because this time we’re not bound by the campaign and election season,“ he added. Angat Buhay NGO, is the volunteer organization that the vice president will launch on July 1 at the end of her term.

When asked about the project’s next step. Dijo Songco said that it was not something they expected and they “didn’t really have a concrete roadmap post-elections.”

“But, given how inspiring the entire pink movement has been over the past few months, it would be an honor if we can continue to contribute to any cause using our knowledge and expertise when it comes to NFTs and Web3.”

Dijo reminded the community to “not lose hope.”

“I think if there’s anything we can take away from this project is that we can all make a difference in our own ways and that every little effort, no matter how small, can really make waves. And we’re very thankful to our community for pushing us and helping us amplify the movement. We hope we can continue the work one way or another,” he added,

At the end of the interview, the Bity Presidente team addressed their gratitude to their community and its members.

“To our community, thank you so much for the support for our humble NFT project, it’s been such an honor to get to meet all of you. We may not have gotten the result that we hoped for, but this is just the beginning for us. We hope we can continue to connect, collaborate, and practice radikal na pagmamahal [radical love] within Web3 and beyond.”
