Bitcoin closed March 22, 2021, at $54,370 per BTC. We’re down 1.7% in the last 7 days and up 96% since the year began. This is also 11.9% below the all-time high of $61,711, which was hit on March 13, 2021.

Bitcoin’s market capitalization stands today at $1,021,781,038,091 which is 58.22% of the entire cryptocurrency market. The entire crypto market, by the way, now has a market cap of $1,751,990,172,017  (-2.5%).

NFT

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey Sells NFT of First-Ever Tweet

Jack Dorsey minted the first ever tweet on Twitter as an NFT on Cent, an Ethereum-run service. Bid has skyrocketed, and today, we learned Jack accepted a bid of $2.9 million from an investor who goes by the name of @sinaEstavi.

Dorsey previously said he will donate all proceeds from this auction. The Block said that once Dorsey received the bid, he transferred it immediately to Kraken.

Time Magazine Releases NFT of Magazine Covers, Hiring a CFO who understands Bitcoin

Available on the SuperRare marketplace, the auction will be open until March 24, at 8 pm ET.

These are the three magazine covers being released as NFT:

  • One is inspired by “Is God Dead?” cover from April 8, 1986. Time said it was the first cover to include only Text. 
  • Next is “Is Truth Dead?” cover from April 3, 2017
  • “Is Fiat Dead” is an exclusive in the series and has not been published before.

A job listing on Linkedin from Time said it is seeking a Chief Financial Officer who is comfortable with “Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.”

CBDC

People’s Bank of China: Completely Anonymous CBDC is Not an Option

“Mu Changchun, the head of the Chinese central bank’s Digital Currency Research Institute, said in a forum on Saturday that the so-called “controllable anonymity” is at the core of China’s digital yuan design.”

“The precondition of CBDC’s anonymity is it being risk-controllable and limited. A fully anonymous CBDC is not practical,” Mu said. He added that the controllable anonymity is also based on international consensus. Any design that doesn’t satisfy anti-money laundering, anti-terrorism financing and anti-tax evasion purposes will be simply vetoed, he said.

Coinbase

Following CFTC Fine, Coinbase Delays Direct Stock Listing

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission has announced that Coinbase agreed to pay $6.5 million to settle with the regulator over allegations on how it recorded trades on Coinbase’s GDAX platform from 2015 to 2018. GDAX is now known as Coinbase Pro.

“The agency points in particular to activity related to two in-house software programs used by Coinbase known as the Hedger and Replicator. The CFTC alleges that, in some instances, those software programs effectively traded with each other, which may have served to artificially inflate prices and trading volumes on the GDAX platform.”

Following this, a report emerged that Coinbase is set to delay its public listing. “Citing “people familiar with the matter,” Bloomberg said that the plans for a March stock offering on American exchanges has “slipped,” and no further details were provided,” Cointelegraph reported.
