BitPinas Webcast 15 – FilipinasNFT Shares More Information About New Initiatives
FilipinasNFT shared how the initiative got its start, as well as the new initiative with First Mint Fund.
There is a notion that the non-fungible token (NFT) space is a men-dominated field. However, that would not stop women-led NFT projects from also prevailing in the space. One of these projects is FilipinasNFT, a collective of Filipina women to help out other women, on-board them into the space and guide them in their NFT journey.
A brief information about the panelists and co-founders of FilipinasNFT, Kata of Kata Maran Collections shared her journey on how she came to learn about NFT through her friend, Jakestudyos, last January and started her own collection about young professionals working at home, which she believes was relevant because of the pandemic. She was also one of the panelists of Mint and Greet meetup last April 23.
Reese meanwhile shared that she started her journey in the NFT Space through Axie Infinity and then met a friend who is willing to create a project last January. She co-founded Soxies, a profile picture (PFP) collection that consists of sock puppets as its NFT art. The project’s main objective is to create a community of people who share their passion and connect with one another as “sole-mates”.
FilipinasNFT started when Reese invited women from the NFT Philippines Facebook group to join their own group chat and because of this, a Twitter Space was created and they met their core team composed of 12 women and initiated this movement to celebrate and empower women in the NFT Space.
Kata’s response to the question how FilipinasNFT differs from other women-led projects,
”Yung passion namin makapag onboard ng ibang NFT artist na di pa nakakapag-mint sa NFT. Sobrang passionate kami na gusto namin silang suportahan at i-empower.” –Kata, FilipinasNFT Co-Founder
[Translation: Our passion is to be able to onboard other NFT artists that have not minted their NFT. We are so passionate that we wanted to support and empower them]
She also expressed her gratitude to First Mint Fund for partnering with them to on-board more artists. She said FilipinasNFT is not intended to compete with other projects but actually support them, in the process making FilipinasNFT a movement.
First Mint Fund is an organization that helps aspiring artists mint their very first NFT in the Ethereum blockchain and offers gas fee funding on NFT marketplaces like Foundation and Opensea.
In response to the question on how women can be part of this new initiative, Reese shared, “We have a form that we have posted on Twitter. It is just a Google Form. You can send us your portfolio through our email account. We will look at them. The difference with us, we will also mentor [them]”.
