Update on June 30, 2024 at 10:00AM: Maya’s crypto app is available now but you cannot transfer and out your crypto from the platform.

Updated on June 26, 2024 at 4:30PM: Maya provided the following statement:

We recently identified an issue with our crypto service caused by a vendor’s system. As a precaution, we have temporarily placed our crypto service into maintenance mode to address this. No other Maya services were affected, and all other Maya services continue to operate normally. 

We want to assure our customers that their crypto funds remain secure. Our team is actively working to restore the crypto service as quickly as possible. We appreciate your understanding and patience and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.

The crypto spot trading feature of e-wallet app Maya has been down ‌for several days already, frustrating users who are now posting on social media to air their dissatisfaction.

What’s the Significance: The outage has prevented users from taking advantage of recent market dips to buy assets.

  • Conversely, it has also hindered users from selling crypto for profit or during periods of strength in the past few days.
  • Also, the extended downtime without any official statement hurts the local crypto industry, where local players, including crypto exchanges attempt to to gain market share in a space largely dominated by the non-licensed exchange Binance. How long is too long: Social media posts indicate that the feature has been unavailable since at least June 18, 2024.

  • j vilar: “It’s been completely down for at least 3 days.  Unacceptable in today’s crypto ecosystem! Guess I know what to do when the system goes back up.” (June 26, 8:46 a.m. on X)

Is there a statement from Maya? BitPinas also visited the Facebook and X social media accounts of Maya and checked their last posts on both accounts to see if they had replied to users who complained in the comment section about the unavailability of the crypto feature. 

Facebook: The latest Facebook post of Maya was on June 25, 6:00 p.m where users also commented about the crypto issue. There are no replies from Maya:

However: As of June 25, the only statement made by Maya is that it is addressing feedback on its features while assuring its users that Maya Crypto will be normal as soon as possible.

What’s Next: BitPinas has reached out to Maya for an official statement and is awaiting a response.

This is an easy solve because hackers had accessed maya customers phones then OTP codes to change customers passwords, maya should add an additional security feature where they have to click a link in the received text message forwarding to them to a secured temp link where they have to place their birthdate or some other personal identification to gain access to the OTP code
