$PEPE and $FLOKI
A “meme coin” is a type of cryptocurrency that is created as a joke or parody based on popular internet memes or trends. Their value mostly depends on their popularity and hype on social media rather than any significant technology or utility.
Pepe is a coin that took inspiration from the popular “Pepe the Frog” internet meme, originally created by artist Matt Furie. It currently has 420 trillion coins in circulation.
Floki is a multi-chain token created in August 2021 as a tribute to Elon Musk’s dog. It has been one of the top crypto gainers in the market for the past two weeks.
In a recently released report from CoinGecko, Pepe and Floki were among the top memecoins Filipinos are interested in. Moreover, as per the data, the Philippines is ranked fourth globally in terms of interest in meme coins, with 5.39% of Filipinos surveyed interested in investing in and holding meme coins.
These tokens are still yet to be added to several international cryptocurrency exchanges.
