For Artists, Developers, and Community: the Tezos ecosystem at the Philippine Web3 Festival
From November 14–18, 2022, the Philippine Web3 Festival celebrated blockchain gaming, NFTs, eSports, crypto, and more! Here’s what TZ APAC was up to: workshops, artist panels, and a community lunch for friends of Tezos in the Philippines.
The sheer passion for Web3 in the Filipino community truly shines through. Since the Web3 mania that changed the lives of many swept through the country in 2021, it’s clear that our Filipino friends are at the forefront of the Web3 transformation. Today, the Philippines rank 2nd in the Global Crypto Adoption Index, boasting of an incredible 15% crypto penetration rate.
Featuring prominent names like Yat Siu (Animoca Brands), Gabby Dixon (YGG), Jeffrey Zirlin (Sky Mavis), and John Verlin Santos (Titik Poetry), the Philippine Web3 Festival showcased the future of Web3 in front of the world’s most engaged audience.
Of course, what’s an Asian Web3 festival without the Tezos ecosystem?
The Philippines has always demonstrated artistic excellence and strong community spirit on the Tezos chain. Talented Filipino artists like Bjorn Calleja (featured at Art Basel HK), loopymoon (featured at AMJ 2022), and Jakestudyos (featured at Crypto Art Week Asia) have served as inspiration for artists worldwide. The vibrant Tezos communities in the Philippines have also organized heartwarming campaigns to support each other. It should come as no surprise that TZ APAC presented a number of compelling activities at the Philippine Web3 Festival.
TZ APAC presents: “Filipino Artists in the world of NFTs” Panel (15 November 2022, 3 PM)
Filipino artistry has always been shining brightly on the Tezos chain. At this talk hosted by TZ APAC’s Ivan Larin, three seasoned Tezos artists shared about their experiences in Web3, challenges, and the inspiration behind their work.
Bjorn Calleja, painter and interdisciplinary artist, is a true inspiration for the Philippines NFT art community – his work has been featured at major exhibitions like Art Fair Philippines and Art Basel Hong Kong. Inspired by life, his vibrant work explores the trinity of identities, and the concept of man versus environment.
Jopet Arias, describes himself as a “forerunner, digital nomad, and visual artist”. As a painter who traverses both material mediums and the metaverse, his work intercepts reality with the metaphysical, spiritual and Divine. He uses different technologies to alter the audience experience, and to explore various aspects of his story.
Sheila Ledesma, is a graphic artist whose work is rooted in play. With collages as her primary source of creative expression, she pieces together fragments of ideas to form fresh perspectives. Sheila digs into the intersection of collage and abstract expressionism to create a representation of her inner world.
Tezos Presents: How Can Artists Enter Web3? (15 November, 5.30 PM)
As an artist, entering the new world of Web3 may be daunting. While the Filipino Tezos communities are dedicated to helping up newer artists, there’s no better place to hear about the space at this main stage, where interdisciplinary artist John Verlin Santos spoked at this event.
John is the founder and CEO of Titik Poetry, an art collective that aims to inspire more individualism through passion-driven programs, initiate charitable acts, and to promote art as a career. Being part of various communities such as Cryptoart PH, NFT PH, and Tezos Philippines, he has also participated in huge crypto-art events such as Crypto Art Week Asia, NFT Art Fair 2022, Meatspace Web3 Art Gallery, AMAC 2022 and more.
Tezos Developer Workshop: Introduction to Tezos Blockchain and Building on Tezos Smart Contracts (16 November, 6 PM at Draper Startup House Manila)
TZ APAC and BitPinas hosted their first developer workshop in the Philippines! Learn about the foundation of blockchain, smart contracts, together with TZ APAC’s Bryan Goh and Ivan Larin.
TZ APAC Community Lunch (17 November, 12.30 PM)
While Web3 has seen many solid friendships forged through virtual platforms like Twitter and Discord, it’s always nice to meet up in real life and put faces to names. TZ APAC is organizing a community lunch at Mamou – delicious food and great conversation never fails to tighten bonds!
Joining this lunch were our friends in the Philippines, from various communities like Tezos PHL, Crypto Art PH, Galleria Paloma, Titik Poetry, and more!

Mula November 14 hanggang 18, 2022, ipinagdiwang ng Philippine Web3 Festival ang blockchain gaming, NFTs, eSports, crypto, at marami pang iba! Narito ang mga naging kaganapan ng TZ APAC – workshops, artist panelsm at isang community lunch para sa mga kaibigan ng Tezos sa Pilipinas.
Ang masidhing damdamin ng Filipino community para sa Web3 ay tunay ngang nagliwanag. Simula noong 2021 kung kailan pumasok sa bansa ang Web3, na siyang bumago sa buhay ng marami, malinaw na ang ating mga kaibigang Pilipino ay ang mga nangunguna sa Web3 transformation. Ngayon, ang Pilipinas ay pumapangalawa sa Global Crypto Adoption Index na may kahanga-hangang 15% crypto penetration rate.
Sa Philippine Web3 Festival, kung saan itinampok ang mga kilalang pangalan tuald ng Yat Siu (Animoca Brands), Gabby Dixon (YGG), Jeffry Zirlin (Sky Mavis), at John Verlin Santos (Titik Poetry), ipinamalas ang hinaharap ng Web3 sa harap ng mga pinaka-engaged na audience sa mundo.
Siyempre, anong silbi ng isang Asian Web3 festival kung wala ang Tezos Ecosystem?
Sa Tezos chain, mapapansing laging ipinamamalas ng Pilipinas ang artistic excellence nito ang matibay nitong community spirit. Ang Filipino artisty ay lagi naman nang bumibida sa Tezos chain. Sa talk na pinasimulan ni Ivan Larin ng TZ APAC, tatlong seasoned Tezos artists ay nagbahagi ng kanilang karanasan sa Web3, mga pagsubok, at mga inspirasyon sa likod ng kanilang mga gawa.
Si Bjorn Calleja, painter at interdisciplinary artist, ay isang tunay na inspirayson para sa Philippine NFT art community – ang kaniyang mga gawa ay naitampok na sa mga malalaking exhibition tulad ng Art fair Philippines at Art Basel Hong Kong, Ang kaniyang masisiglang gawa, na kumuha ng inspirasyon sa buhay, ay hango sa konsepto ng trinity of identities, at konsepto ng man versus environment.

Sinasaliksik ni Sheila ang kaugnayan ng collage at abstract expressionism upang makabuo ng representasyon ng inner world.

Bilang isang artist, ang pagpasok sa bagong mundo ng Web3 ay maaaring maging nakakatakot. Habang ang Filipino Tezos community ay dedikado sa pagtulong ng mas mga bagong artists, walang ibang mas maganda pang lugar par marining ang mga bagay tungkol sa space na ito kung hindi sa palatuntunang ito, kung saan ang interdisciplinary artist na John Verlin ay magsasalita.
Si John ay founder at CEO ng Titik Poetry, isang art collective na naglalayong palaganapin ang indibidwalismo sa pamamagitan ng passion-driven programs, magpasimula ng mapagkawang-gawang mga aktibidad at ipakilala ang sining bilang isang hanapbuhay. Bilang parte ng iba’t ibang community tulad ng Cryptoart PH, NFT PH, at Tezos Philippines, siya rin ay lumahok rin sa mga malalaking crypto-art events tulad ng Crypto Art Week Asia, NFT Art Fair 2022, Meatspace Web3, Art Gallery, AMAC 2022 at marami pang iba.
Sa workshop na ito, ang mga kalahok ay dinala sa mga usapin tungkol sa:
- Kasalukuyang estado ng NFT community sa Pilipinas (hal. Projects, marketplaces, themes, objectives, at causes).
- Filipino NFT Art champions sa world stage, at ang mga susi sa likod ng kanilang mga tagumpay.
- Mga oportunidad, payo, at tips sa pagpasok sa space!
Tezos Developer Workshop: Introduction to Tezos Blockchain and Building on Tezos Smart Contracts (16 November, 6 PM sa Draper Startup House Manila)
Ang TZ APAC at BitPinas ay nag-host ng kanilang kauna-unahang developer workshop sa Pilipinas! Dito inaral ang ilan tungkol sa foundation ng blockchain, smart contracts, kasama sina Bryan Goh at Ivan Larin ng TZ APAC.
Sa workshop na ito, ang mga developer ay:
- Ipinakilala sa Tezos blockchain ang iba’t ibang klase ng smart contract language na mayroon ang Tezos, at binigyan rin sila ng resources na tungkol sa kung paano bumuo sa Tezos.
- Ipinakilala rin sa SmartPy platform, na siyang naka-code gamit ang Python Framework at nangangailangan ng basic understanding ng Python programming.
- Makapakikinig rin mula sa aming community partners: Web3 Philippines, Ownly, SparkPoint, SparkLearn EdTech.
- Nakilahok rin sa isang developer group activity kasama ang aming partner leads bilang mga hurado.
TZ APAC Community Lunch (17 November, 12.30 PM)
Habang ang Web3 ay nagkakaroon na ng mga maraming matatalik na kaibigan na pinanday gamit ang virtual platform tulad ng Twitter at Discord, talaga namang nakakatuwang makipagkita sa kanila sa totoong buhay at makilala sila sa mukha. Ang TZ APAC ay nag-organisa ng isang community lunch sa Mamou – masasarap na mga pagkain at malalamang mga kwentuhang na siguradong makakapagpatibay ng pagkakaibigan.
Ang mga kasama sa tanghaliang ito ay ang mga kaibigan natin mula sa Pilipinas, mula sa mga community na tulad ng Tezos PHL, Crypto Art PH, Galleria Paloma, Titik Poetry, at marami pang iba!
