In addition to Ripe and Soltera, a recent post from Superteam Philippines highlighted that the local web3 community joined and competed alongside over 1,000 global project submissions.

Superteam Philippines shared that 21 Pinoy-made projects qualified for the hackathon, 11 of which were among the shortlisted projects in the top 200.

Last month, the Local Demo Day for the hackathon took place in the Philippines, spanning from March 4 to April 8. On April 12, nine teams presented their projects, contending for a combined prize pool of $1 million.

Among the winners were Ripe and Soltera, with Soltera securing third place overall and Ripe receiving the Most Innovative Project Award.

What are Ripe and Soltera?

Ripe

It is a decentralized app facilitating everyday crypto payments across Southeast Asia. It allows users to scan GCash and Venmo QR codes, utilizing Solana USDC for fiat payments to merchants.

“We’re thrilled and humbled to (be) among the winners of Colosseum’s Renaissance Hackathon—4th place, DeFi/Payments!  Proud to (represent) The Philippines and Southeast Asia,” Ripe wrote in an X post.

Soltera

Soltera aims to digitalize the energy sector in the Philippines. Its goal is to implement Helium gateways in different electric utility service regions across the country, employing LoRaWAN-enabled smart meters and advanced metering infrastructure.

Solana Renaissance Global Hackathon

The Solana Renaissance Hackathon, supported by the Solana Foundation, is a global event fostering innovation within the Solana network. It convened entrepreneurs and developers from over 95 countries to create projects across various sectors such as Infrastructure, Gaming, DePIN, DAOs, DeFi, and Consumer Applications.

According to Colosseum, it drew over 8,300 participants who collaborated to produce a total of 1,071 projects that were submitted to the judges, marking Renaissance as the largest online Solana hackathon to date.

“Solana Hackathons are the epicenter of startup formation in the ecosystem, and Renaissance was no exception… A new wave of highly talented developers and founders are now building promising products that will continue to take crypto into mainstream adoption,” said Dan Albert, Executive Director of the Solana Foundation.
