  • The wedding incorporated augmented reality invitations featuring the couple’s “voxel” avatars and demonstrated the potential for integrating AR and NFT technologies in future events.
  • Xovox Labs, where Miccolo Solis serves as CMO, has been experimenting with AR and NFTs for six months, working on innovative products that merge digital and physical experiences.
  • Xovox Labs’ CEO, El Bonuan, sees a growing demand for immersive and personalized experiences as more people become aware of AR and NFT, driving innovation in the industry.

On April 1, 2023, Miccolo Solis, the Chief Marketing Officer of XOVOX Labs, recently tied the knot with his partner Ruth Jimenez. The story could end there, and it would be special for everyone involved, of course.

But Solis, also a web3 influencer, thought of taking the celebration to another level. He wanted to make a statement, not just about what is being celebrated—their marriage—but also about the couple’s passion for the web3, blockchain, and metaverse technologies.

A Wedding for the Digital Age

With a desire to create a unique and memorable event, Miccolo and Ruth decided to incorporate augmented reality (AR) and non-fungible token (NFT) technology into their wedding celebration. Drawing on Miccolo’s experience as a web3 influencer and his role at XOVOX Labs, the couple managed to seamlessly blend the event and came up with a unique hybrid experience, one that is experienced virtually but also in reality, both at the same time.

The innovative approach is first experienced via their wedding invitations. Guests received a one-of-a-kind AR experience featuring the couple’s “voxel” avatars dressed in their wedding attire, blowing kisses to each other.

The invitation served as a trigger for the AR experience, providing a unique and unforgettable digital component for the guests.

“We used our invitation to trigger the AR experience. It was a great experience not just for us but also for our guests,” Miccolo said.

Getting Started in Web3

The Solis couple first bursted into the web3 scene through their YouTube channel “WeDuet.” When the play-to-earn boom happened in the Philippines, Solis became a scholar at Yield Guild Games and was the author of a popular YouTube video on how to earn on the hit game. They made a name for themselves, and soon Miccolo became the Chief Marketing Officer of XOVOX Labs, which specializes in AR and NFT experiences.

Miccolo said his and Ruth’s passion for web3 and their involvement in the space inspired them to take on this innovative concept, which could pave the way for others, be they influencers or even brands, to explore the integration of AR and NFTs in their own celebrations or events.

Miccolo shared, “Ruth and I have been in the web3 space for quite some time. It has always been a bonding experience for us talking about crypto, playing NFT games, and attending web3 events. I have been passionate about web3 since I became a YGG Axie Scholar and now being part of XOVOX Labs as the Chief Marketing Officer. It opened a lot of opportunities for me, and I wanted to give back.”

The AR Experience

Augmented reality (AR) is a technology that overlays digital content in the real world, providing an interactive and immersive experience. In recent years, AR has become increasingly popular in various industries, from gaming to retail.

In the local web3 space, some of the startups exploring this technology are Ownly, which built its own platform for such experiences, and XOVOX Labs, where Solis is Chief Marketing Officer.

It was XOVOX’s team that created the wedding invitation.

“We used our invitation to trigger the AR experience. It was a great experience not just for us but also for our guests,” said Solis.

What is the Future of Events with NFTs and AR?

As a web3 influencer, Solis sees NFTs and ARs getting integrated into events and celebrations. The word used for this is “phygital,” wherein an event has both an online and in-real-life component. Depending on the elements, the experience could be personalized as well.

Miccolo explained, “We (XOVOX Labs) can see a huge potential in integrating NFTs and AR for events. Nowadays, events are being celebrated not only in the physical world but also in the digital world. So why not create a digital experience as well?”

According to El Bonuan, the CEO of XOVOX Labs, more people becoming aware of AR and NFT could increase the demand for personalized and immersive experiences:

“The NFT and AR-themed wedding of Miccolo and Ruth was an innovative and creative example of how blockchain and metaverse technologies can be used to create immersive and personalized experiences.”

What is XOVOX Labs?

XOVOX Labs has been experimenting with NFTs and AR for the past six months, developing products that integrate these technologies, such as business cards, event invitations, POAP dispensers, and merchandise. Bonuan claimed that his firm is committed to pushing the boundaries of blockchain and metaverse technologies and creating engaging and interactive experiences for users.

Bonuan shared, “At XOVOX Labs, we’ve been experimenting with NFTs and Augmented Reality for six months and are excited to finally share the results with the public. We’re developing products that integrate NFTs, NFCs (near-field communication), and AR, such as business cards, event invitations, POAP (proof of attendance) dispensers, and merchandise.”

As more individuals and businesses explore the potential of these technologies, are we looking forward to a world where the digital and physical realms intertwine seamlessly, creating unforgettable experiences for everyone involved?

Bonuan concluded, “We believe these technologies can transform the way we interact with the world, and we’re committed to being at the forefront of this exciting field.”
