To position the Philippines as a key investment and digital gateway to ASEAN, the Department of Trade – Board of Investments (DTI-BOI) and a private sector-led technology movement Digital Pilipinas co-hosted an event with prominent investment champions to support the “Make it Happen in the Philippines” campaign. The gathering highlighted the potential of the country in the global market.
DTI – BOI x Digital Pilipinas Event
The event, themed “Philippines as the Investment and Digital Bridgeway to ASEAN”, brought together industry experts, government officials, investors, and foreign dignitaries to discuss the Philippines’ potential as an investment hub and gateway to both the ASEAN region and the global stage.
“With its strategic location, robust economy, and commitment to technological innovation, the Philippines provides a central access point for investors and digital pioneers to tap into the diverse opportunities across ASEAN nations,” Digital Pilipinas Convenor Amor Maclang affirmed.
In July, Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) and the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI’s) Board of Investments (BOI) chose Digital Pilipinas as their inbound and outbound promotions partner.
Hjayceelyn Aurora Quintana, the Philippine Permanent Representative to ASEAN, discussed the government’s efforts to foster growth in creative industries, IT, and business process management sectors.
“Among these strategies is making use of a combination of financial and technical support to academic and skills training institutions, business incubators, and startups,” she shared.
In a statement, Digital Pilipinas shared that the event marked the launch of the Digital Pilipinas Festival x Philippine Fintech Festival Year 2, scheduled for November 21-24, 2023, at SMX Aura and multiple locations nationwide. This festival supports investment efforts in collaboration with DTI and national agencies, aiming to be a major gathering of industry leaders and delegations to set new collaborative benchmarks.
Maclang recently took part in the ASEAN Indo-Pacific Forum 2023, where she was a panelist in a discussion with leaders from ASEAN and the Asia-Pacific region. She delivered remarks on the “Creative Economies panel on Advancing Movie, Audio-Visual Entertainment Industry and Digital Product through Better Regulation.”
DTI New Platform
Moreover, at the event, DTI Secretary Alfredo Pascual declared that the DTI-BOI is dedicated to advancing initiatives that actively promote investment opportunities for the country’s economic development.
Pascual disclosed that the BOI will launch a platform to provide massive training to millions of young people in September, the 56th anniversary of the BOI’s founding.
“To support this platform, we are putting up what we call the national innovation hub and there will be a physical hub. We’re getting the support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) with significant funding, and this will house also the Center for Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research that will work on the application of AI in the operations of our small to large businesses,” he stated noting that the platform will also be supported by tech companies in the United States.
