AMD CEO: Blockchain is a Distraction in the Short Term
Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) CEO, Ms. Lisa Su, said during her interview with CNBC on April 26 that blockchain is “a bit of a distraction in the short term.”
Ms. Lisa Su, AMD’s CEO, shared her thoughts about the blockchain technology during her interview with CNBC on April 26, 2018. She said that the blockchain is “a bit of a distraction in the short term”.
AMD is experiencing a better-than-expected growth in the first quarter of 2018. Rather than getting caught up with the blockchain hype, AMDย would rather focus on their core market.
During the interview, Ms. Su was asked whether she thought blockchain is “temporary in nature.” She answered:
“The long-term technology around blockchain is an important technology, and weโre spending a lot of time with some of the key influencers in this area, so I think itโll be here for the next 3, 4, 5 years. Now what it does tomorrow vs. yesterday, I think thatโs anyoneโs guess.”
It is reported that the multinational semiconductor company’s stocks went up by 11% on April 25. CNBC then asked if the profit was from underplaying the role of Ethereum Mining that caused the 23% of 2018 revenue, to which Ms. Su answered that it’s around 10%. The CEO believed that while mining added to the company’s revenue, it is not yet a major factor in AMD’s growth.
