Amidst COVID-19 Pandemic, Crypto Conferences Go Online

The organizers of Consensus 2020, one of the biggest events in the crypto industry decided to move the event online.

The COVID-19 pandemic has put the global economy in a downturn. In the crypto markets, one of the first market reactions is the flash crash last March 13, 2020. Before that, a number of conferences and events have either been canceled or postponed. One of the conferences confirmed to have someone with coronavirus in attendance.

Many, however, opted to proceed with the conference, only this time, they are, or will be conducted online.

Here are some of the canceled or postponed events and their original date:

  • RE WORK London Finance AI Summit (UK) / Mar. 31, 2020
  • Istanbul Blockchain Week (Turkey) / Apr. 6 – 10, 2020

Here are the conferences that are moved online:

  • Cosmos India (India) / Mar. 15, 2020
  • DeFi Full-Stack / May 1 – 2, 2020
  • Consensus (US) / May 11 – 13, 2020

In an interview with Cointelegraph, Antonio Milio of Bitwings said most conferences have been postponed until fall.

On March 15, 2020, it was reported that one person who participated in the Etehreum Community Conference has been diagnosed positive to COVID-19. This led to other participants being requested to take the test, including Vitalik Buterin, the creator of Ethereum.

The organizers of Consensus 2020, one of the biggest events in the crypto industry decided to move the event online. They will also allow everyone to attend the virtual events for free and promised full refunds to those who initially bought tickets.

In the Philippines, the Philippine Fintech Festival was moved to a September date.
