“We just recently started working on localization for our content. We are making localized versions of the dev updates, the announcements. We’re going to improve that into a level na mas ano siya, [that is] specific and real time.”
This is the statement of Nix Eniego, Philippines Lead for Sky Mavis, when asked about the things that he can do—or is doing—to avoid misinformation about Axie Infinity in the Philippines, the “Facebook Capital.” The interview was conducted during the BitPinas Webcast last March 10, 2022.
He added that after localizing the updates and announcements from the developers, he aims to post it on different Facebook Groups that focus on Axie Infinity.
“Additionally, we are starting to leverage the main Axle Infinity official Facebook group. Now, we’re starting to be more active. They’re posting more there. I’m also working on getting some partnerships with existing Facebook groups…
I haven’t spoken with everyone yet: I’ve chatted only with a few, pero goal ko kasi sana ay bigyan nila ako ng moderator (or) admin access sa group nila so every time there’s an announcement, we’re just gonna blast in all groups.”
[“I haven’t spoken with everyone yet; I’ve chatted only with a few (people) and my goal is for them (i.e. the Sky Mavis team) to, hopefully, give me a moderator (or) admin access to their group so that every time there’s an announcement, we’re just gonna blast in all groups.”]
Eniego admitted that Facebook groups reach more users than a Facebook page, thus, posting in all the active Facebook groups will effectively help users stay informed and prevent the spread of misinformation locally.
“So, that’s the goal. I’m trying to work on that as well, but localization is very important,” he added.
Eniego also shared that they are already working on a localized version of Axie Infinity’s White Paper and The Community Treasury’s article. “So, these are really important pieces of information that we feel that the Filipinos need to know.”
He clarified that though many Filipinos can understand English, more Filipinos can understand the contents available if it is localized.
“So, ‘yon yung goal namin, we’re working on that para mas maintindihan ng lahat ng players natin. But, yeah, hindi talaga natin maiiwasan.”
[“So, that is our goal and we are working on that so that all our players will understand it. But it (misinformation) cannot be avoided.”]
However, he told the viewers that it is just easy to inspect whether the information is valid or not. Eniego shared that about weeks ago, a fake news was disseminated to the community that the Axie Infinity will shut down due to the war between Ukraine and Russia.
“I mean, nangyari ‘yan a few weeks ago, so I think meron talagang ganyan. So, as players, as members of the community, let’s just be more vigilant. Let’s be more careful. And let’s think like, uh, kung parang imposible naman yan wag tayong maniwala,” Nix concluded.
[“I mean, that happened just a few weeks ago, so I think that fake news and misinformation are always there. So as players, as members of the community, let us be more vigilant. Let’s be more careful. And let us think that if it is impossible to happen, then do not believe in that.”]
