Rihanna’s “Bitch Better Have My Money” Goes NFT: Fans Can Now Earn Royalties

• A portion of Rihanna’s hit song “Bitch better have my money” has been divided into 300 NFTs by its producer, Jamil “Deputy” Pierre.
• Collectors of these NFTs own 0.0033% of the streaming royalties to the song and can expect returns of 6.1% to 6.8% in the first year.
• Other music artists, such as Ely Buendia and the Filipino band Moonstart88, have also released or integrated NFTs into their work.

Although indirectly, world renowned R&B singer Rihanna is the latest celebrity to have ties with the non-fungible token (NFT) space as a fraction of her smash hit song “Bitch better have my money” are being sold as NFTs.

Jamil “Deputy” Pierre, the song’s producer, collaborated with crypto startup AnotherBlock to take a part of his own streaming rights and divide it into 300 NFTs. 

One NFT was sold at $210, giving each collector ownership of 0.0033% of the streaming royalties to the song–the holders first payout will be on February 16. Within minutes of the announcement, the collection sold out giving AnotherBlock a $63,000 in revenue.

Currently, the song “Bitch better have my money” has streamed over 673 million times on Spotify. According to AnotherBlock’s website, collectors can expect to pocket returns of between 6.1% and 6.8% in the first year. 

Last year, Former US President Donald Trump also dropped his own collection called Trump Digital Trading Cards–a collection of 45,000 fantasy-themed NFTs with images of Trump in a style similar to collectible baseball cards. (Read more: Donald Trump NFT Sells Out in Two Days)

On the other hand, in the Philippines, Music legend Ely Buendia, frontman of the band Eraserheads, have recently joined Fine Arts NFT platform Artifract.io. Last month, the SEC released a draft version of the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) of the Financial Products and Services Consumer Protection Law (Republic Act 11765). Once implemented, the Commission will have the ability to impose stricter penalties on scammers and Ponzi schemes.
