  • Korean actress Park Min-young has been summoned for questioning by prosecutors regarding her possible involvement in the embezzlement case involving her ex-boyfriend Kang Jong-hyun, de-facto owner of Bithumb, the country’s largest cryptocurrency exchange.
  • Kang and his sister were charged with embezzlement and other crimes related to their affiliation with Bithumb. The actress was called to examine whether she obtained profits from any illegal transactions made by the company or its affiliates.
  • Park denied all allegations of her involvement in any illegal acts with Kang and Bithumb. Her agency confirmed that she completed the prosecution summons for investigation as a simple witness and is not currently prohibited from leaving the country.

Korean actress Park Min-young was recently summoned by prosecutors regarding the investigation involving her ex-boyfriend, Kang Jong-hyun, de-facto owner of the country’s largest cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb. Kang was being charged with embezzlement, fraudulent transactions,and dereliction of duty.

Last September, Korean news outlet Dispatch reported that the actress was in a relationship with Kang and also brought up various allegations against him. 

On January 25, Kang and his sister Kang Ji-Yeon, the CEO of InBioGen and Bucket Studio—both affiliates of Bithumb, were charged by the Seoul Southern District Prosecutor’s Office and an arrest warrant was requested. On February 2, Park’s ex-boyfriend was officially arrested.

Aside from being a witness, the actress was also called for questioning over her possible involvement in Kang’s alleged crimes, and to examine whether she obtained profits from any illegal transactions made by the company or its affiliates. Moreover, the prosecutors noted that they are considering whether to conduct further investigations into Park.

As per reports, the actress denied all allegations of her involvement in any illegal acts with Kang and Bithumb.

In addition, on February 15, Hook Entertainment released a new statement explaining why the actress was summoned.

“We will inform you about our agency’s actress Park Min Young’s prosecution summons for investigation and prohibition of departure as was reported through the press on February 14 (Tuesday). Park Min Young dutifully completed the prosecution summons for investigation as a simple witness, and we confirm that she is currently not prohibited from leaving the country,” their statement read.

On the other hand, Bithumb’s PR team has denied Kang’s involvement with the company.
