By Hans Doringo
Anito Legends, a Filipino folklore-inspired play-to-earn game, announced its partnership with award-winning horror writer, Yvette Tan as it hopes to be a mainstream game that could proudly represent the Filipino culture.
Yvette Tan, a Don Carlos Palanca awardee for Literature and a celebrated writer of several acclaimed literary works like the feature film, Ilawod, and the story, โThe Child Abandonedโ, joined the team as a creative consultant for the craft of Lupa, the gameโs world.
โYvette was top of mind when we were talking about the intricacies of the lore for Anito Legends,โ said Jayvee Fernandez, Chief Marketing Officer for Masayato Games.
Fernandez also mentioned that the gameโs codex got its inspiration from the writerโs previous work, โKabaโ, a collection of short horror stories.
โAnito Legends isnโt just a game โ itโs a collection of short stories that can easily be compiled into a novella,โ Fernandez stated, as he explained that the game includes journal entries that can be unlocked to complete the backstory of Lupa.
Yvette Tan is no stranger to NFT space, as she already collaborated with Team Manila in releasing the NFT book, โThe Last Moonโ, as part of the Philippine National Book Development Boardโs official catalog at the 2021 Frankfurt Book Fair. โThe Last Moonโ is the first book to be ever published in the NFT space.
With her background in horror stories and involvement in the NFT world, the writer said that she accepted Fernandezโs invite to join the team of Anito Legends in developing the lore of the game.
โAside from being able to work on an awesome project and fulfill my dream of writing for a game, I also know that Tiny Yvette would have been proud,โ Tan said in a Facebook post.
Anito Legends is a multi-platform strategic auto-battler game wherein players are tasked to assemble a team of Anitos, customize their equipment, and battle with other players to advance in the game and earn Anito tokens, the gameโs tokens that can be used to purchase items from the Anito Legends Marketplace.
