June 27, 2019 – Blockchain platform Klaytn has announced the members comprising the Klaytn Governance Council, responsible for the platform’s governance, consensus node operation, and ecosystem growth.
Klaytn’s governance council consists of 23 top global companies successful in their respective industries, whether IT, finance, game, content, and telecommunications.

With a strong drive for blockchain implementation in Asia, it is helpful that companies in the assembled alliance have close geographic proximity with each other, allowing for “greater cross-border synergies”. among their different industries. As key decision makers for the Klaytn blockchain, the Council will work towards “developing blockchain services operated on Klaytn and accelerating user acquisition”.
It is without question that the council members are heavy hitters in their respective industries globally but particularly in Asia. LG is a notable multinational conglomerate with offices globally. Netmarble has been a consistent no. 1 mobile game developer from Korea. Everrich is a Southeast Asia-focused real estate developer and of course, UnionBank of the Philippines has led blockchain efforts in the country.
gumi Cryptos, the cryptocurrency and blockchain investment arm of gumi, one of the leading game development and publishing company in the gaming industry, also has a seat in the Governance Council. In a message on Twitter, gumi Cryptos Hiro Kunimitsu said he joined and also highlighted how the setup is similar with Facebook’s Libra Association, and he expressed excitement as Klaytn’s is already set up while Libra is still scheduled to launch next year.
Klaytn is Kakao’s global public blockchain project that aims to bring a user-friend blockchain experience. Combining the best features of public and private blockchains, Klaytn will be secured by the participation of global brands who will work together to build a reliable business platform “on top of a system of decentralized trust”.
