24-year-old Eloisa May Panganiban, team captain of the Synergy Guild since 2021, attended the YGG Pilipinas Roadtrip not just as a participant but also as staff at the booth of web3 company BreederDAO.

Eloisa and members of guilds like Synergy went to the event, requiring more than 10 jeepneys to transport them to Aquamarine Recreational Center, Lipa City, where YGG Pilipinas, a community dedicated to promoting web3 adoption in the Philippines, organized this event to connect gamers, developers, and industry leaders.

Held last April 13, 2024, the event drew more than 1,000 attendees out of over 1,500 registrations, reflecting the resurging interest in crypto and web3 in the Philippines particularly among gamers and enthusiasts.

“Ang nag-stand out sa akin ay iyung mga games talaga na puwede mo laruin. Ang pinaka-memorable talaga doon ay iyung pagiging staff namin, as a first timer, mahirap pero enjoyable naman kasi sobrang daming tao. ‘Yun yung masarap sa feeling, na ang dami mong makikilala sa YGG community at mga influencer.”

[Translation: What stood out for me were the games that you can play. The most memorable part for me was being a staff member. It was challenging but enjoyable because there were so many people. That’s the good feeling, that you get to meet a lot of people in the YGG community and influencers.]

YGG Pilipinas Roadtrip Launches Successfully

The first leg of the YGG Pilipinas Roadtrip successfully kicked off at the Aquamarine Recreational Center, which, according to Phee Tejada, Business Development Lead of the organization, aims to put the grassroots community — the players and enthusiasts — front and center.

“Not your typical web3 event where you see a lot of founders, VCs (venture capitalists) and devs.  What you see here are your gamers, content creators, moderators, community managers, and students. It’s our intention to make them the star of the show!”

Phee Tejada, Business Development Lead, YGG Pilipinas

The event began with welcoming remarks from YGG Pilipinas Country Head Mench Dizon, followed by keynote speeches from Engineer Amelia S. Dean (Regional Director, DICT IV-A), Janet Magpantay Ilagan (Mayor, Mataas Na Kahoy, Batangas), and Jay Manalo Ilagan, Vice Mayor, Mataas Na Kahoy, Batangas).

The event proceeded with segments featuring Spraky and John Sedano, Community Lead and Campaign Director for YGG respectively.

The day was also packed with game introductions, including the popular farming game Pixels.

Web3 games Sipher and Parallel TCG were also both featured on stage, with creators Excelsor and Kobe Streams providing shout casting for the Sipher match, while YGG Esports Team Captain Disi (Ian Dela Cruz) mentored attendees on Parallel TCG.

Other game show matches include Delabs’ Rumble Racing Star, Arena of Faith, and Immutable’s Metalcore

Building Communities and Careers in Web3

Web3 Metaversity mentors John Sedano and Spraky also led educational sessions focused on “Leading a Community That Matters” featuring creators Kookoo, Shanks and Synergy Guild Leader Nolan “Nate” Manalo.

There are also booths from partners like locally licensed crypto exchange Coins.ph.

Eloisa noted the educational impact of these discussions.

“Sa events kasi talagang marami kang matututunan. Matutunan mo kung paano tumatakbo yung crypto, the trades, and the games. Hindi na lang kasi umiikot sa games yung YGG, dito matututo ka na mag communicate, sa pagkakaisa ng bawat guild. Para sa akin, it’s helpful talaga na magkaroon ng YGG roadtrip para sa mga gamers like me at sa mga guild.”

The Importance of In-Person Connections

Tejada highlighted the value of in-person events in strengthening bonds within the gaming community.

“Not many people talk about it, but this is why IRL events like @Yggphroadtrip and @YGGEvents need to happen. It helps games create a personal connection with the gamers that then strengthens community stickiness.”

Phee Tejada, Business Development Lead, YGG Pilipinas

Web3 content creator and YGG community member Kookoo also expressed the value in connecting with the community in real life.

“It’s always such a great feeling to connect and share experiences with our community in person,” Kookoo wrote
