Chat App Line announced its intention to boost decentralized apps on its platform by building a custom blockchain to support it.
At a recently held developer event, Chief Technology Officer Euivin Park said that this will be built outside of Line’s existing products. To promote and accelerate development, developers of decentralized platforms on this blockchain will be incentivized. Also, to achieve this new roadmap, Line is set to recruit more blockchain developers in Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia.

Line recently launched Unblock, a subsidiary that focuses on blockchain-related research and development. Line is also in the process of launching a cryptocurrency exchange in Japan.
Decentralized apps within Line’s main platform might be similar to WeChat’s “Mini Apps” model. “Web Apps” are embedded inside WeChat that perform specific functions, such as payments, booking, etc. This function eliminates the need for the user to use other apps installed on their phones and just do everything within We Chat.
